When the clock stopped at stuck at .3 seconds left, I thought of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=orhnPflyrTs. For the record, the last 1.7 seconds took about 4.23 seconds from the time the ball was touched.
Second thread on this. Usually the second one gets more posts, for some reason. So I'll repeat: That play is reviewable, no?, since it was a clock issue. Nothing would have happened. They either award Rockets the ball for Cunningham being out of bounds, or they ignore the inadvertent clock stoppage and say the game was over.
they stop the clock because Cunningham touched the ball when he was out of bound but no ref blow the whistle so they re run the clock again
FWIW, I actually think the clock operator got it right and the refs screwed up. Dante Cunningham had taken 3 steps out of bounds before touching the ball with 0.3 seconds remaining. The clock SHOULD have stopped. Oddly, the refs let play continue and even let Gordon attempt a shot. It should've been Rockets ball out of bounds with 0.3 remaining, at which points they could've just thrown it ahead where the Pelicans couldn't steal and shoot it in time.
Yeah, many of us agree that the clock operator was trying to do the right thing. But that doesn't really matter, because he's supposed to always wait for a whistle, right? I'd like confirmation that any clock issue or inadvertent clock stoppage at the end of the game like that is reviewable. And once it goes to review, the game is over because there was no whistle...time ran out. At worse, they call it out of bounds and give Rockets the ball with .3 left...again, game over. I mean they often put time on the clock or take time off at end of games. Would this be any different?
Item 5 Clock Malfunction Season Adopted 2008-09 Trigger : Officials have reasonable certainty the game clock malfunctioned and it continued to run to 0:00 or could have run to 0:00. Reviewable Matters Whether the following occurred: (1) Time from when the game clock should have started to the field goal was released or the game clock ran to 0:00. (2) Clock incorrectly ran to 0:00 following FGM or whistle. (3) If FGM was released in actual time and if time should be added to the game clock. (4) If the clock started early, how much time should be added to the game clock. (5) FGM was scored correctly as a 2pt FG or 3pt FG. (6) Shooter committed a boundary line violation immediately prior to the release of the shot. (7) 24-second violation occurred prior to the ball leaving the shooter’s hand or foul occurred. (8) 8-second backcourt violation. Notes • For clock malfunctions, the officials will not make a ruling prior to using replay. • Clock malfunctions occur when clocks start early, late or freezes during play. Underlined is why it would have to go to review
There is no guarantee that a "reviewable" call will be reviewed. I think the officials would have gotten the call right regardless but it shouldn't take a review to correct any errors. The clock operator screwed up. It's impossible to know if he did it intentionally.
At the end of the game?? When the Rockets are already protesting? come on. This isn't the 1972 Olympics. The ref screwed up for not blowing the whistle. But it still gets reviewed, or it turns into huge media coverage, and someone gets into serious trouble. But, the ball didn't even go in. Do you enjoy inventing the worst possible outcomes of a game...
Its some straight up ho ****, but the one that im still pissed off about is Memphis. Better hope that game doesnt cost us a favorable matchup or home court.
Actually the situation worked in rockets favor, if that shot will go in, 100% they will review it and overturn it. So instead of leaving .3on the clock for the rocket to inbound, which could still have one in a million chance the rockets can screw up, the ball game is over.

Hard to fault the time keeper. Technically you are supposed to wait for the whistle, but the call was extremely black and white, and very non-subjective. The second he touched that ball it should have been dead. No harm was done, but for an NBA ref to miss a call that egregiously is a joke.
Well that's Ken Mauer for you. It looks like he's the worst ref we could possibly have when it's a tight game in the final seconds.
