A little late to the party, but great move for the Clippers. CP3 leaving really did signal the end of that era. They were just reluctant to admit (i.e. panic spending on Blake and Gallo).

I'd rather suck, tank and follow a "trust the process" type rebuilding stint than to spend a ton of a money and win 40-45 games every year. Remember our treadmill years? No thanks.

It's also funny to see so much buyer's remorse in the past two years with these MASSIVE contracts and teams immediately recognizing their mistakes (Mozgov, Crabbe, Blake, etc).

    https://www.nytimes.com/2018/01/30/sports/basketball/blake-griffin-trade-clippers-pistons.html

    • And here’s what it really means: L.A.’s new front-office voices — most notably the legendary Jerry West — convinced the Clippers’ ring-hungry owner, Steve Ballmer, that they have a real shot to force their way into the free-agent mix this summer for Paul George and (gasp) even LeBron James. All they had to do was jettison Griffin and create some more salary-cap flexibility.
    • Multiple league insiders said Monday night that the Clippers aim to keep trying to create salary-cap space for this July — enough for multiple maximum contracts if everything falls just right — through potential trades headlined by DeAndre Jordan and Lou Williams, both of whom (as we recently reported) are coveted by the Cleveland Cavaliers.
    • But the Clippers’ worst-case scenario isn’t bad, either, thanks to Griffin’s sudden departure. In the event that they can’t create sufficient salary-cap space to make credible bids for James and/or George in July, they’ll still be on course to have major cap space in the summer of 2019 to go with the two quality assets acquired from Detroit in this trade: Tobias Harris and the Pistons’ increasingly attractive first-round pick in June.
    • One warning, in closing, if we may: Don’t ignore the Detroit side of all this, which is plenty fascinating, too. All the Pistons’ recent losing (seven consecutive Ls at the start of December and an 0-8 launch in January) is merely one alarming trend for Van Gundy. All the empty seats routinely seen at their new downtown arena is arguably even more troubling. Year 1, after all, is rather early for an attendance crisis in a new building. Griffin will presumably sell tickets to address that issue immediately, but he’ll have to figure out how to fit alongside Andre Drummond — while trading his Hollywood address for a Rust Belt one. Not that Van Gundy is likely to be terribly concerned about the down-the-road financial implications of this trade for the Pistons should the Griffin/Drummond tag team fail to flourish. The deal comes with Van Gundy running out of time to deliver some certifiable progress in the fourth season of a lucrative five-year deal to serve as Detroit’s coach and team president. It also comes at a time when rival team executives have been buzzing about rumors that the longtime player agent Arn Tellem, who has been heading up the Pistons’ business side as vice chairman of Palace Sports & Entertainment since June 2015, is a potential successor to Van Gundy as the head of Detroit’s basketball operations. You can’t help but wonder, then, if taking on Griffin’s mega-money contract, as well as his daunting injury history, is the gambit that saves Van Gundy … or paves the way for a Tellem takeover.

    good trade for both teams!

clippers got some solid pickups and blakes money is gone

people can say pistons now have to pay Blake all that money will never be good with him, well not many allstars are signing up to go play in Detroit, you get one more piece never know what can happen, and owner has a allstar locked up will be able to sell more tickets endorsements etc

    Jerry West is old, yes.

He's also the guy behind Kevin Durant going to the Warriors.

I can actually see Klay going to the Clippers since the logo is there and if i'm not wrong he was the one who was against trading Klay for Love years ago, i mean, if the Clippers are able to build a decent team meanwhile.

LeBron 'a little shocked' about Griffin trade

LeBron James says a team that trades stars under contract like the Clippers did with Blake Griffin don't get labeled "a snake" like a player does when he asks for a trade.

    Lebron sees you Clippers.

    LOL, Stein.

Cp3 gone. Blake gone. Austin Rivers can now have the team all for himself.

The undefeated isn't it owned by Lebron?
I basically take Spears as a mouthpiece for Lebron.

But but but Jerry West! There's definitely a shot he goes to the Clippers! :D

    The Undefeated is ESPN
Uninterrupted is LeBron's thing with BleacherReport
Undisputed is the TV show on FS1

    It can get confusing. ;)

LeBron James to the Spurs would be interesting. I often wonder how James' career would have gone had he some how ended up on the Spurs.

They will make an effort to add a player like LeBron James or Paul George. If they fail to do so, I think they can then rest easy knowing they don't have to pay a 30 year old Blake Griffin 150 million dollars over the next four years. Ballmer wanted Griffin, I don't think West of Frank ever did. Blake is a loser.

It's about those PICKS. Lou, Pat, Trez+Dekker combo, Bradley, Tobias, Milos, Deandre, they can all net you a 1st. Rivers + Gallo you might have to attach picks to... West is probably selling the idea of cap space, but has not real intention of capitalizing on it.
