    Holland joins Texans' staff

The Texans have hired Johnny Holland as linebackers coach.

Holland, who grew up in Hempstead and played at Texas A&M, coached Detroit's linebackers the last three seasons.

A week ago, he accepted a job offer from Buffalo, but when Gary Kubiak invited him to return to Texas, the Bills agreed to let Holland leave.

Holland, 40, played linebacker at Green Bay. He has been an NFL linebackers coach for 11 years, including the last three at Detroit, where he once worked with Texans defensive coordinator Richard Smith.

Holland's defensive coordinator at Detroit was Dick Jauron, who coached him with the Packers. Jauron, who was the Lions' interim coach this season after Steve Mariucci was fired, was hired by Buffalo last month.

Because of their long relationship, Jauron let Holland leave the Bills for the Texans. Holland has family in Houston and wanted to be closer to them.

Yep I mentioned it in the Kubiak Assistans thread (but with no article).

Yet another Aggie. Bringing the Aggie tradition to Houston. :)

So... do we have anybody on the coaching staff without Houston ties?

That's what I was thinking. I'm starting to get ill. I mean seriously, I haven't really heard of most of these coaches.

Wow, Johnny Holland used to be a great linebacker in the original Tecmo Bowl. Hopefully he will be a good coach as well.

Just as lame as New Orleans trading their #2 pick to the Texans for David Carr......
