Rockets forward to play next season whether NBA does or not

[rquoter]Forward Luis Scola, who spent seven seasons with Tau Ceramica of the Spanish league before joining the Rockets in 2007, said Friday he would play overseas next season if there is a protracted NBA lockout.

"I'll play somewhere next season," Scola said after the Rockets' meeting with NBA Players Association director of player programs Purvis Short. "I'm a basketball player. That's what I'll do. If it is in Houston, that would be better. That's what I want, but I will play."

Scola is optimistic the league and union will come to an agreement. Though Short said the meetings are to help keep players informed, he added that he hopes for progress in negotiations after the meeting during the All-Star break.

"It's in the early stages. Both sides are trying to get together and negotiate a deal," Short said. "Right now, it's slow. Not much is happening. We're hopeful that after All-Star weekend there will be much more progress.

"The reaction has been very good. Players have been very inquisitive. ... It's our responsibility to make sure they have been informed. ... We have to make sure they understand what the issues are." [/rquoter]

Good, I hope he gets injured so we can void his contract so we can get even further under the cap.

We're still gonna pay for his contract even if he gets injured. Don't you know the meaning of guaranteed contracts?

Anyway Scola should take the year off and save his legs. He can't play bball 24/7 he's gonna burn out his legs.

I am sure there are provision in the contract where you can't do things like ride motorcycles or play offseason sports.

Wow, if the owners lockout the players, tons of them could go overseas on temporary contracts. They could definitely hold out longer than the owners.

I'm pretty damn sure you can go play elsewhere in a lockout. I know Dirk has said he would, and I think Kobe said he would go back to Italy. So it shouldn't be a problem there.

Good luck getting FIBA to clear Scola (or any other NBA player then under contract) to play overseas during the lockout without a clearance letter from the NBA or USA Basketball. It's a two-way street. Just like Ricky Rubio cannot leave Barcelona right now to play for the T-Wolves.

The NBA owners will not permit this activity to go on. It's not going to happen.

Player salaries do NOT get paid during a lockout. That's the whole point of the owners locking out the players in the first place.
