Also, I'm not sure anyone realizes this, but we just overtook Utah for the #4 seed in the Western Conference.

no we didn't...we have a better record than utah, but the new rules mean they'll be 4th seed anyway.

My mistake -- I did mean to say 4th best record. We're still seeded 5th in the playoffs.

We should thank the new rules, because by the old rules Utah would be 3rd seed and we have to play Spurs or Mavs if we got 5th.

Does the 5th seed get home court advantage if they have a better record than the 4th seed?

So in everyway that matters the 5th seed is the 4th seed if you have a better record then the division winner.

What about when it comes to drafting? I know playoff teams automatically cannot be in the lottery. So a team like Golden State can finish above .500, miss the playoffs, and still get a better draft position than a playoff team that finishes ten games below .500, like the Nets.

If we're fifth seed and Utah is forth, do we get a better draft pick? It'll only be a difference of one spot, most likely, but one spot in the 20's is the difference between Kevin Martin and Sasha Vujacic.

Man that does suck. Its a price you pay for playing in the West. Consider it compensation for having the Suns, Clippers, and Lakers in your division alone.

    Why? Divisions DO NOT MATTER.

The Rockets are in the same exact position as Golden St., regarding the Suns, Clippers, and Lakers. We play them all the same amount.

I wonder if Barkley, and every other talking head, will bump Houston up to its "top 4", replacing Utah.

Their quotes have been, "The top of the west is really good... Phoenix, Dallas, San Antonio, Utah... but the rest aren't that good."

My guess is, they shorten that "top 4" to "top 3"... and everybody else (and it will be "top 2" once we take over San Antonio).

    Let the hating commence!

Does homecourt advantage also go with Higher seeds or Higher records?

We're not the only ones playing Dallas, Phoenix and San Anton

So do Utah, the Lakers and everybody else

Standings are not determined after we play those teams. Standings are finalized after 82 games. ;)

    Records... seeds are STUPID.

They should just rank each team 1-8 by conference... if they want to tie some importance to a "division championship", they should play an unbalanced schedule.

What they need to do is forget about East and West division. Just play by who has the better records out of the 30 teams. It just seems so unfair this season with East being so mediocre and the top 6 teams are all from the west...

Nah... they still need to keep it as is. Each conference plays a different schedule, and eventually the East will be good again.

But, seeding teams 1-8 by conference is long overdue... divisions are meaningless.

"There is no question in anyone's mind around the NBA that Houston plays as hard as any NBA team"

I really like this compliment for our team. :)

In the Nuggets-Clippers series last season, LA had homecourt advantage due to a better record (47-35 vs 44-38), despite being a lower seed (6 vs 3).

So, this season the 5 seed would still get homecourt over the 4 seed if they have a better record.
