I saw this article earlier today and loved it. This is what I love about Yahoo Sports. Great article after great article. Well researched, logically thought out, and they don't just throw out a contrary opinion to create reaction. There is some actual JOURNALISM going on here. Marc Spears, Adrian Wojnarowski and Dan Wetzl are some of the best in the business.
Heard a long radio interview yesterday with the writer (Marc Spears I think.) Unusually good interview by "The Razor and Mr. T" (T = Tom Tolbert, former player.) This was a lot of good research/writing, and it's amazing to see. The story is sort of a time capsule for a very weird era. Basketball wise, I never thought Washburn had all this amazing talent, but the article seems to suggest he could have been shaq or some such.
His talent is overstated, but Washburn would have been a very good NBA player if his head was on straight. No doubt about it.
Definitely agree! At best, he could have been better than, say, Daryl Dawkins (sp) but nowhere close to a Moses Malone. Just my two cents from watching his games in college. I didn't see any of his 72 pro games. Marc Spears said something really weird in the interview. He said he was really growing up in that era and because of what he saw, he became incredibly scared of drugs (and still is scared of them.) He said he's "probably the only person in the Bay Area to never try pot." Striking, and ... probably true.
worst/most dissapointing draft in history? 1 having a heart attack 2 days after the draft 2 kicked out becuase of drug usage and 1 is currently in prison for usage of drugs.
