Golden State F Chris Porter arrested on drug charges August 24, 2001 DOTHAN, Ala. (AP) -- Former Auburn star Chris Porter was arrested Friday on drug charges after he was stopped for a traffic violation. He was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and second-degree possession of mar1juana, said Lt. Ray Wiehe of the Dothan Police Department. Porter was to be released under $1,000 bond. Other details were not immediately available. Porter, the 1999 SEC player of the year, drafted in the second by the Golden State Warriors last year. The 6-foot-7 forward started 35 games last season, averaging 8.6 points and 3.7 rebounds. His hometown is about 25 miles from Dothan _________________ So much for a promising Golden State Season.....still a team of losers.
man, first getting suspending for most of senoir year, now this. You think he would have kept his nose clean after screwing up in college.
Where's Swopa? Let's watch the mighty GS Warriors summer juggernaut collapse... Come on Swopa... cheer for a team that actually has a future... become a Rocket.
Thanks for the note of realism, Dr. N. This is a sad situation, but in a roster review I wrote up a few weeks back, I projected Porter as the Warriors' third-string SF. (For anyone who reads the link, sorry about the formatting -- the paragraph breaks got lost when the admin moved/revamped the site.) He's essentially an unpolished version of Shandon Anderson at this stage of his development, with hopes of maybe someday becoming a more athletic version of Rick Fox. The really shocking thing in the latest wire story is that he was reportedly driving a white 1990 Chevrolet Caprice.
For anyone who's interested, here's a summary of the legal situation Porter faces: Regarding the cocaine, Porter was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance (violation of Section 13A-12-212). This is a Class C felony, punishable as such by 1 to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000. He was also charged with second-degree possession of mar1juana, a misdemeanor. Any handgun-possession charge would also appear to be a misdemeanor. As long as he wasn't carrying more than 5 grams of cocaine or 4 ounces of mar1juana (and he has no prior felony convictions), he can request diversion to a treatment program in lieu of prosecution.
No, no silly Dr Noogy Booger! The list of GS failures grows... and grows... time to hook up with a real team. It's inevitable that all their stars will be traded away just as in the past, so why not support a team with a future? i.e., the Rockets!
