role players can help move the needle. that's the problem with the im not paying tax logic. its a pretty bad excuse. we've seen it time and time again in the playoffs. role players step up and you need those to win. now what likely isn't happening is signing bubble nba players and expecting them to come through for you because they fit the bargain price. that's just a recipe for disaster

Again you are not answering the question. Which player did the Rockets miss out on? The Rockets at full strength were a top 2 or 3 team last season. They lost to the Warriors and every game could have gone either way. Sorry but you guys get caught up in the moment too much. Only one team wins a championship and the Rockets contended...

There's definitely deals out there to be had that we fans never hear about. Trades happen that nobody saw coming. GM's are always talking and opportunities come and go. Yet the only moves we seem to make are moves that don't put us above the luxury tax threshold.

Are we really that naïve to think the only moves that were available are ones that didn't cost more money? Come on now. This team makes tons of moves every year but not one move ever pushes them over the line. LOL. Yeah- that's a freak accident. No other possibilities to improve were out there except the ones that kept the payroll under the luxury tax line. I'm not buying it.

Yes- the owner has been cheap. He's wasting Harden's prime years. I already watched Les Alexander do it with Yao and Tmac and here we are again. It's very frustrating as a fan because we are SOOOOOOO close to finally breaking through.

there's been a number of players that have moved or been available. we obviously don't know specifically what the amounts offered were in their FA meeting but I've said this before i pray we don't find out the rockets didn't miss out on the likes of a jaymychal green for example, because they refused to offer their mle that they've been sitting on for 2 seasons now thus far bc of LTS. its pretty interesting to know the rockets were in LA to meet with FA's and they came away with 0 new ones.

and this is the thing. Harden is 30. you only have so much time to actually put people around him. If the LTS and penny pinching is going to happen for years to come then yeah we'll never really find out what could of been. and its a shame it came down to the a role player isn't worth LT. Role players can absolutely make a difference. if you're not going to put the best people around him you can now then when? years down the road o_O that 2017 harden/cp3 team, could very well turn out to be the best team hes ever been on. at full health, that squad was just a problem for the entire league

it did give me somewhat some hope that Clutch mentioned Iggy was a guy the rockets viewed as worth it for LT. And for good reason. he's definitely someone the rockets need. Now I dont think they're willing to give up a first for him that memphis is looking for, which makes sense to me

Exactly. Right now is the time to spend and give it everything you've got. There's nothing to wait on except Harden getting older, slower, and more injury prone. Why would you go into the luxury tax then but not right now?

It doesn't make sense. Tilman isn't dumb. He either doesn't believe in Harden, truly can't afford it right now, or never intends to go into the luxury tax. All of those scenarios are a bit concerning.

Tilman's loan is now junk bond status. Even at 7.1% interest rate and 8.75% bonds, investors are losing money because buyers don't believe Tilman will be able to pay it back.

Think about it! 30 years Treasury pays 2.3%. You can buy a 6 years bonds and get paid 8.75%, but people still won't buy it because they think Tilman will default!

    "
Rich Handler, the CEO of Jefferies, which served as the lead underwriter of the bond sales. ‘We’ve done a lot of deals with him, and the lenders have made a lot of money.’”

Fertitta sold $745 million of bonds maturing in 2024 at an interest rate of 6.75%, and $670 million of bonds maturing in 2025 at 8.75%.

The bonds are the obligation of Golden Nugget, Inc. Bondholders have no recourse to the basketball team. GNI, wholly owned by Fertitta, owns and operates the Golden Nugget hotel, casino and entertainment resorts in downtown Las Vegas and Laughlin, Nevada, and the Lake Charles property in Louisiana. The company also owns and operates dining restaurants, mostly casual, such as Landry’s Seafood House, ChartHouse, Saltgrass Steak House and Rainforest Café.

The Rockets made it to the Western Conference finals last season. But not all of the bond buyers have fared nearly as well. The price of the 2024s has fallen from $102 to $98. Or looked at another way, the yield on the 2024s has increased to 7.1% from 6.75%. Yes, bonds in general have been hammered this year due to climbing interest rates, but other restaurants, like Yum Brands and Wendy’s, have comparable bonds with yields more than 100 basis points lower. Investors may also have soured a bit when Fertitta was rebuffed in his attempt to buy Caesars Entertainment this month."

"Use the MLE and I'll buy it."
"Dip into the luxury tax and I might think about buying your book."
"I would buy it but it would take me over the luxury tax for my monthly personal expenses."
"Will he spend over the tax if I do?"

So what if Russ hadn't done this?
Why didn't any of the local mouthpieces report this?

At 8.75 interest rate, WB just gave Tilman over $3.5 million by giving Tilman an interest free loan.

Cash flow problem, borrowing from players now that bond investors don't want his junk bond

That’s pure speculation on your part. You have no concrete evidence or examples of impactful players who were willing to come here but turned off by Tilman’s offers. Austin Rivers signed for the vet min to stay. House was signed on a very friendly contract and Capella signed for a favorable amount too. The fact is the Rockets are effing loaded, don’t make too much about coming up short against the Warriors.

Austin Rivers absolutely did houston a favor. Everyone knows he’s worth more than some min contract. We have concrete evidence that the rockets have met with numerous FA’s in LA. Again coming up with 0 new ones. Nothing speculative about that. Also nothing speculative that a number of players were available or moved. this “impactful” view is just bad logic. I gave you an example of green that I hope we don’t find out the rockets cheaped out of. What’s concerning is just letting mle money sit while harden is 30 and getting older. It’s pretty sad actually

Effing loaded is a bold statement when we arguably have no real power forward on the roster.

Agreed. But again as a fan you just want your team to do whatever it takes. I mean we (fans) need to be satisfied as we are the reason for the show anyways!!!

Plus like many have stated, the window to win is closing every year ( in Harden prime) and you just gotta keep pushing the envelope.

Ok I’ll break it down clearer. Truth be told, nobody knows for sure why WB agreed to this. I’m simply suggesting that maybe WB agreed to this because he feels he can make the money back in other areas. As far as it being a condition for the trade, I never mentioned that so idk where you are getting that from.

    Forget power forward...

We have 6 players that we KNOW are playable in the playoffs and one that has upside that we hope is (House.) The rest are old guys or young unproven guys that the coach has benched in the past. We are not "loaded."

We could have used any number of the players who signed with new teams this offseason.
