They just fired a rookie head coach and now they hire another rookie head coach, wtf is wrong with Charlotte. Good luck Steve, you'll need it.
i actually liked that move by them because i thought he would help teach the young guys how to play. they'd still be limited on talent, but they wouldn't be making stupid mistakes.
The guy they fired had precious little NBA experience. It was a ridiculous hire that took everyone by surprise. Steve Clifford has been in the NBA the last 15 years. He's a longtime, highly regarded, very competent NBA assistant and is about the best Charlotte could hope to do.
On a rebuilding team, constant roster and staff movement is a good thing, imo. Morey felt the same with the Rockets. Hell, we hired Kevin F'ing McHale over HOF bound coach Rick Adelman.
I hope Bucks take Sampson, so we can at least offer Finch the lead assistant role to keep him from leaving.
also, why pay adelman top dollar when the team is losing? save money and get a low cost coach in mchale to develop the young guys.
He was fired because of exit interviews by the players. He was a curious hire for sure but it seemed almost inspired by the performance/improvement he got out of Biyombo, Kemba and Mullens (early on before the ankle injury). But what got him relieved wasn't his coaching bonefides or his acumen, it was that he rubbed so many of the players wrong (vets and young'ens apparently). He did have some bizarro rotations at times but that seemed to get a bit less loopy as the season wore down - but that several players (vets) were in his doghouse for times during the year seems to speak to how unwell he fit in interpersonal-wise w/ the players. Kinda unfortunate, he wasn't a great coach but he was a great developer of talent - far more than Paul Silas managed while collecting his pay. As for the guy asking about Larry Brown. Lol, Brown was the J. Wellington Wimpy of the Bobcats franchise. Except he wasn't going to pay you Tuesday for the burger, he was just going to put the team is such a disastrous state of financial ruin that we're STILL trying to unwind the mess. He gladly had the franchise pay in 2011-12-13-14 for a 2010 playoff appearance (and unfortunate sweep). He also was widely reported to have been the reason for the drafting of DJ Augustine over Brooke Lopez .... yeah, don't think there are many Horncat fans that look back on the LB era and think anything but good riddance. All the folks that continue to berate MJ as an owner really need to clue in. It's a fun notion I am sure but it's hardly accurate.
