http://www.click2houston.com/sports/20080522/detail.html POSTED: Thursday, July 16, 2009 Houston -- The Rockets have been in the news throughout the summer for not for the reasons any franchise hopes for. Forward Shane Battier, who has remained silent throughout the off-season, spoke with KPRC Local 2 Sports Thursday. "We have faith in Daryl (Morey)," Battier told KPRC Local 2 Thursday. " We're gonna have to totally reform the way we play. We may become the Phoenix Suns of the South." Battier has stayed close to the off-season news involving the loss of Yao Ming and the future of Tracy McGrady. " Yao is our foundation. When he's playing great, we're playing great," said Battier. " We'll have to circle the wagon a few more times and try and win games. A lot of teams in the west got better, but we know we're gonna play really hard and we're not gonna be as easy out for anybody," Battier added in his interview with KPRC. Battier has seen the current roster develop and realizes lack of size will be an issue in the 2009-2010 season. " We're not very big, we can't play a half court game with these teams that are taller than us," Battier told KPRC Local 2 Sports. " We can't change our injury news with Yao or Tracy but we just keep our eyes open. We have complete faith in Daryl and Adelman that they will have a great game plan for us. Battier added, " All of our mindset is to come and compete for a championship, be in shape and ready to rock." Morey has indicated future roster moves will come via trade and Battier addressed his future with the Rockets to KPRC Local 2. " Unless your name is Kobe or Lebron, no one's job is safe," said Battier. " Randy, It's flattering to hear your name tossed around. When that stops, that's when you have to worry." More from Battier on KPRC Local 2 Sports Thursday and on Sports Sunday.
we are the suns of the south, lol, we run and shoot like the suns, but we are also grounded in the south, in the defense region
To rap fans, the "Suns of the South" also means the "Suns Chopped and Screwed" It's like the original but slower and not as good unless there is some sort of influence you are under
I was hoping for the Golden State Warriors of the South, so that we lose lots of game and get high draft pick like Stephen Curry.
It will be a fun season coming up... lowered expectations are great on the nerves... makes watching games less stressful
OK, lets say hypothetically Tracy McGrady doesn't get traded and gets healthy. Would playing in a faster up tempo offense help Tracy on the offensive side??
If tracy can get back in shape and get back the athletic movement he's always had, He is a good finisher around the rim and can create for others while running.
I think geography isn't Battier's strong suit. Last I checked, New Mexico is in the South as well, right next door to Texas. Ah, well... I know what he means.
Quite appropriate, considering "screwed" was created in Houston... which I'm assuming was your thinking.
I don't mind the Rockets to play offense like the Suns, as long as they still play defense like Rockets.
