Saw this posted on CD forums. If you had to choose between one or the other, which would your rather have in Houston?
A Casino would be the absolute best thing for Houston...there are already so many business in the area, sure people on their stops in town would love the chance at casinos in the area...A casino would be an instant cash maker for the city...
As an adult, I'd rather have the casino. I miss Astroworld, and it sucks that kids today can't enjoy it. I would like another amusement park, but I think it would have to be indoors, or partially indoors. I liked the idea of building an amusement park inside of the Astrodome, but it would likely be too complicated to work right next door to Reliant Stadium. I would be happy with either, but would prefer casinos/gambling. I know lots of people who travel to Louisiana on a regular basis. Why not keep the money here in Texas?
At least when you walk into a Casino you know you're getting ****ed out of your money. You having to buy a soda for $6 and a cheap toy from a gift shop for $30 is just rape.
I chose theme park just because I would want something the entire family could do. And I've been to Atlantic City and that place is a dump. There isn't much that will compete with Vegas, so I think any casinos we get in town aren't going to be very nice. I know Texas loses a lot of money to Louisiana, but I'm just not sure how much will come back and if it will sustain itself. The idea of tourists coming in though and just spending money while in town by chance (on business or what have you) seems good, but where would the casinos go? If they aren't downtown, galleria, or close to the airports, I'm not sure they'd see much of that action.
Ask a bunch of stoners, drinkers and gamblers if they'd prefer a theme park over a casino? Sure, that's fair.
There are casinos that have activities for non drug, alcohol or gamblers...so your statement isnt fair...A Casino doesnt have to be the size of the Astrodome, and it surely can hold other activities in the area...bring tremendous revenue to that part of town...there are lots of things to do in vegas that dont involve, gambling, drinking, girls...my parents can attest to that...while i obviously indulged on the other three...loll
Galveston would become a top travel destination. More restaurants would be built, and I would make more money. $$$$$$$$
So..... Lake Charles gets a lot of business from Houston for their Casinos. A Casino here would bring a lot of revenue and tourism (much more than there is now) IMO. Not that it is the best attention to receive by any means, but it is what it is.
Casino, it'd be too hot for theme park However, casino district will cause crime to go up, I'd still choose Casino- I like to sports bet
That's the only thing they have in Lake Charles. I had an OK experience, living there for 4 years. In my last year there, they finally had a Chick-Fil-A. I used to eat that every time.
Once again. I would love a casino, but there is a totally dark side that is often totally ignored. Houston right now is is a major fight against illegal drug monies and shipments. Traffickers could get a strong hold in the community once an establishment such as a casino is introduced into this market. The rates of Illegal/harmful activities such as thefts, murders, suicides, DUIs, addictions will all worsen. while yes, the casino could bring a ton of revenue to the state...it will introduce a totally new problem that the city hasnt been faced with yet. Its always a good idea to discuss both sides of the fence. -"Mo money, mo problems"
