Carmelo: "I'm not going to (come off the bench) in a situation where I still know my capabilities"

It doesn't appear that Carmelo is in any hurry to take a bench role with the Rockets. We lack the depth at 4 so I'd bet Dan Tony will start him to begin the year, but it seems increasingly clear that we are getting a guy who still thinks he's a superstar in this league. Not off to a great start. Here's the full quote:

'Ay CP they told me I have to come off the bench'

    Facepalm.

I have to hope once he gets in the system and sees how he fits best, he'll do the smart thing and come off the bench. It took Josh Smith a while to understand it before agreeing to come off the bench too.

I just cannot stand this type of thinking. It's extremely selfish and it undermines the concepts of team and coaching.

If we are going to win it all with him playing a big role, he has to mature a lot throughout this season.

Don't care a bit, I don't know why alot of people putting too much emphasis on him starting or coming off the bench, I think he'll be starting and gets subbed out with cp3 3 or 4 minutes into the game.

I don't think there's enough room on the court for 9 other players, plus Melo, plus his ego.

Exactly who would start in front of Melo? Melo would start at the 3, Tucker at the 4.

Don’t you hear what he is saying? He gonna Ball like the Mello! Harden already got his MVP and CP3 hungry for a ring. They’re gonna showcase Melo in the offense while the MVP shows off his Defense he been holding out on.

Here we go. The guy hasnt even signed yet and the disillusion is setting in. The complaining and fake season long injury cant be far behind.

He knew this is/was a possibility when he agreed to come here, so why is he reacting to it now? Just bc you come off the bench doesn't mean you're a bad player. Examples: Manu, Lou Will, Gordon, Iggy. How is this dude 34 and still have the mindset of a 13 year old? There are literally dudes younger than him with better maturity. I like the signing overall but I mean come on Melo lol

I wouldn't expect CarMElo Anthony to say anything less.

    I like his confidence.

Better than Luc with his bum ass shoulder or that worthless sac Ryno. Those guys couldn’t even give us minutes when we needed them most.

Well this won’t end well. Melo at the 3 is a disaster.

The thing is we don’t have anyone to start ahead of him so he has to start! Plus we already got our 6th man...

It really doesn't matter the way we run our pick-n-roll heavy and iso centric offense. To go along with out switch everything defense.

If you're going to get exploited, it's bound to happen. But you guys can't act like D'Antoni is just going to stand there and watch Lillard, or Mitchell, or Westbrook take Melo to the yard every single time they get that switch.

This is a game of chess not checkers. Even for the regular season.
