You're wrong on so many levels. Especially about Ewing. And I'm by no means am I a fan of him, but Ewing averaged 20pts a game for the first 13 seasons of his career. Put up 20 and 10 nine years in a row. In 89-90 he averaged 28.6 pts, 10.9 boards, and 4 blocks a game. All of this during the age of the big man. Ewing didn't need the help of the media to establish himself as a Great big man. IMO, Melo is an ELITE scorer who's game will season nicely with age. I think he needs to be teamed up with an elite PG and a bunch of shooters before Tyson Chandler gets to old. Getting some value for Amare would also help. (good luck there)
I don't agree. He's a first ballot HOFer, even if he gets into the HOF after 15 years like King did he didn't get there by playing the worst worst in B-ball.
Ewing did have that one cool season of 28.6 pts but that's basically his career high already, his average is actually much lower at 21 pts and and 9.8 rebs, still pretty good but then again if you get an average of 16 attempts a game you should score 20 pts a game. Understand I'm not saying Ewing is trash, I do think he was a good player as you said he averaged 20 and 10. However IMHO he was vastly overrated due to playing in NYC, people tend to attribute most of the defensive ability of those Knicks squads to him when it was both a team and coaching effort by JVG. Anyway, Melo being an ELITE scorer is pretty much the same thing with NYC media backing his hype train. Dude just shoots way too much for the good of his team.
And where would he go, anyway? He doesn't want to play anywhere that isn't glamorous, and he most certainly doesn't want to be anyone's sidekick. He figures to wait it out until NY can clear the cap room necessary to go after a guy like K-Love or LMA. Hell, maybe even Asik.
If the Knicks couldn't get past Indy this season they definitely will not get past them after adding a healthy Danny Granger and Luis Scola. Well, I guess they did add Bargnani so that's a thing they did. He can throw out all those platitudes about liking the spotlight and the pressure but he's on a sinking ship. If he cared about winning he would be forcing a trade to the Spurs or something.
Not every pro athlete wants to win bad enough to sacrifice their comfort level. In fact, considering human nature, most probably rank winning a championship several rungs down the ladder.
that's all propaganda from Melo. He doesn't want the Knicks to know he's leaving and put him on the trade block. He doesn't want to be exposed this season and have to play in front of the Knick crowd with them knowing he's leaving. He wants to go to LA. He doesn't want to have to be faced with the decision to sign away his opt-out in favor of a trade to a contender (like Houston) that has assets to send back to the Knicks for him. He knows the Lakers do not have anything to trade to the Knicks for him...so he knows he can't be traded there. He has to walk there next off season. But he knows other contending teams have assets that they could trade to NY if NY gets a whiff that he's leaving (they should already have gotten the whiff).
