I don't really understand where this "Gomez is a cancer in the locker room" is coming from? I'm rooting for Gomez but he's had his struggles against Corbin in the past (0-9 with 4 strikeouts) so I won't be expecting a 4-4 night but I won't crucify him if he goes hitless today like 90% of this board will.
As many 1st inning runs that our pitchers give up, maybe they need to pitch a full warm up inning before each game.
Gomez is actually hitting .296 vs LHP this year. Very small sample size, but .296 none the less. He should be playing against LHP, and select RHP only.
If Castro was available today, Kemp could have played LF with Colby in CF and Gattis DH. Neither Gomez nor Jake should be playing vs RHP, but we really didn't have much of a choice today
The problem with Gomez is that we've seen very few good at bats, he is lost. He should not be starting for us, i take Marisnick and his hot streak over a guy that has looked awful since day one this year.
No he's not. If right, Carlos Gomez is a good baseball player and a significantly better baseball player than Jake Marisnick. But "right" Carlos Gomez isn't something that'll magically appear one day; he has to play. And the Astros have to give him enough leash to make the best determination for the team. This idea that Luhnow is trying to justify the trade... playing a sub-.600 OPS player that you traded for everyday is far more harmful to your reputation than outright burying/releasing the guy would be. So, no: Jeff Luhnow is not mandating the Astros start a bad baseball player to justify ****. If he's mandating anything at all, it's the amount of rope they're willing to give Gomez before cutting ties.
Haha, relax. Gomez has never contributed since day one of this trade. The "rope" is too long. You think Epstein would give this guy this long? Gomez will not improve. Bet on it.
He posted a .991 OPS in September/October, hit a HR in the Wild Card game and posted a .750 OPS in the ALDS with another HR. He hasn't been good overall; downright dreadful this year. BUT... if it's a matter of health, I'd like to see Carlos Gomez healthy. This line-up *needs* a healthy Carlos Gomez.
He hasn't been fully healthy in more than a year, has he? He strained his hamstring last April - and we all know that can be a lingering issue. He then played through an intercostal strain last September. This year, he bruised a rib. The hamstring and rib injuries landed him on the DL. And there's a persistent rumor that his hip is in bad shape, which was reportedly why the Mets failed him on their physical last July. I thought this was all pretty well-known? And "healthy" is a sliding scale; other than physical examinations, the Astros are at Gomez's mercy to help them determine the extent, if any, of his injuries. If he checks out and says he's healthy...
But to say his sucktitude may be because of health issues? He's healthy enough to run without a gimp and to corkscrew himself into the ground at bat, he's healthy enough.
They don't want to hear facts man Lot more fun to say nogo and stuff like dat Plus, jake is a futur HOF
Ah, well - there ya go. Yeah, let's just ignore two DL trips in the span of a single year, including one that concluded about a week ago; one documented injury he played through last fall and a failed physical in which we have no confirmed details - all because you have the capacity to diagnose injuries from your couch.
