Canaan's Murray State Teammate, SF Ed Daniel, to Play for Rox Summer League Team

The Houston Rockets have decided to reunite the winningest senior class in Murray State history.

Hours after selecting Isaiah Canaan with the No. 34 overall pick in Thursday night’s NBA Draft, the Rockets signed unrestricted free agent Ed Daniel to a deal.
Daniel’s professional career will begin with summer league play in Orlando.

Canaan and Daniel join former Tennessee State star Robert Covington, who also signed a free agent deal with Houston.

College: Murray State
Size: 6-7, 228 pounds
Projected NBA position: Forward
Noteworthy: Played four seasons for the Racers and earned first-team all-Ohio Valley Conference honors as a senior, when he averaged 13.2 points, 10.0 rebounds and 1.6 blocks and shot 56 percent from the field. Made a significant step forward from his junior season, when he averaged 6.8 points and 5.5 rebounds. According to NBA scouting report, is considered a very good athlete and rebounder with good length for a forward.

Still no indications if he can dribble or not, but he is built like a tank, 6'7" 228.

Again, Murray State guy here. Daniel isn't best known among die hard MSU fans for his dunking as much as for his defense and rebounding. He has an unusual nose for the ball, often getting rebounds that he shouldn't be able to get. His defensive iq and ability to move without the ball and screen and roll are really good. He was our defensive crutch throughout the 2011 season when we went 31-2 and was was a key player for 4 years in college that accumulated over 100 wins. He dribbles fine around the basket but isn't the guy you want bringing the ball up the floor or dribbling outside of 15 feet. Has a decent 15ft shot, very raw post moves, and gets most of his points off of offensive rebounds/ putbacks. He has elite athletic ability running the floor and around the basket and is super quick off his feet. He will never be a great offensive presence and will benefit the team the most with tough down low defense and rebounding which he excels at. Our team was lost defensively when he wasn't on the floor and I hope that he does well at summer league. Last year at the Lebron James camp many scouts commented that he was one of the best big men there and plays much bigger than his size suggests. That was with about every other elite big in college last year. He had over 17 rebounds in several games last year.
Oh yea and his dunks are exciting!

Watched the Canaan highlight videos, scouting reports and this guy stood out to me, I could see the motor and athleticsm. Great to see we'll take a look at him, wouldn't mind having a defensive-minded motor coming off the bench.
