can we start giving D'Antoni credit for the defense now?

Earlier in the year the defense was a total disaster. D'Antoni gave a statement to the media saying they would eliminate the switching. PJ Tucker dropped "not the same team" statement that seemed to be the death knell.

Then something happened. D'Antoni watched tape that night and decided that he didn't want to abandon the switching but that he needed to get some things cleaned up. He rallied the team around the concept even though some of them doubted it could still work. He pushed it and that combined with replacing Melo in the rotation has turned the defense around.

If the defense holds up, the media and fans will erroneously look back and attribute the change in defense to the return of Coach B. (a good coach none absolutely) The reality is that Coach D'Antoni saved the season because of his DEFENSE decisions.

But then again I don't think the team would have looked the way it did if Bzdelik was here at training camp drilling the defensive X and O's.

lol @ still taking jabs at melo. dont forget the benching of MCW, and gerald green which were much more important IMO.

anyway i just love the fact coach dantoni recognizes the importance of defense now where in past coaching jobs it seemed to be an afterthought. he loves having a great defensive team.

Roy Rogers deserves a lot of credit as well. He was given the head job with little time to prepare and was given an inexperienced assistant and told to be coach up the defense. The defense started the year terrible, but Rogers defended switching to the head coach and worked a lot with the new players and the defense has improved.

I still would not be comfortable with Rogers being the top defensive coach for an elite team. He doesn’t have any experience doing that and has been his best working individually with players (Harden). However he deserves some credit.

Nah all credit to Biglydick. He was Facetiming with MDA and gave him advice on how to fix the D.

yep... Jeff returned and MDA washed his hands of any thoughts of defense... ie 'Back to business as usual' for MDA...
Imo, now Jeff is probably trying to make the d work with subpar defensive players and little to no support of the head coach - which is probably why he left in the first place...
but now he's back for the money and prob doesnt care as much... figures whats good for the players is good for the Biglydick... lol ;)

The organization has returned to the dysfunction of 2015-2016

Rockets allow 123 points a game last 3 games.

How many points can this team score without Harden?

    Gordon 20
    Paul 20
    Tucker 10
    Capela 15
    Ennis 5
    Subtotal 70

    Benches: 20 points

    Total: 90 points

well Melo has shown he can still go off for 28 on occasion....
oh, thats right, he 'doesnt fit' due to his poor defense....

which btw... we only gave up 123+ (actually 116+) points twice in the 10 games he played.... and that was without Bzdelik... so there's that... lol

but in fairness, 2 out of the last 3 did go to overtime... for more scoring...
