When Tim Duncan re-signed with the Spurs, there was speculation that part of the reason he did it was because he did not want to face Shaq by himself in the Finals. I think that is total BS, but it does pose an interesting question that will have to be answered sooner or later. How would Duncan fair against Shaq and the Lakers if the Spurs don't have Robinson?

Duncan cannot stop Shaq and on the other side, Shaq cannot stop Duncan, so it comes down to, who has the better overall team.

    Answer: Faker$

(This is based on your assumption that "The Admiral" is injured.

If there are no injuries, Spurs are the better team.

That's why a Duncan/Cato matchup looks inevitable, since Cato is the only person that can stop Shaq.

I think it will come down to fouls

    Do they call charging?
    Do that call touch fouls?

Shaq could run over Duncan if they let him.
Duncan could get shaq caught on some touch
    fouls.

As if Shaq would ever get called for any fouls. NBC would have a heart attack.

I give it to Shaq by a narrow margin. 10 games of 1 on 1 to 15, I think Shaq wins 6 or 7 times. Variables in a real game include the other players, officiating and what kind of outside shot Duncan has in that game.

Thought this might be of interest:

The recap talks about Shaq wanting Dunc on D.

Officials: Jess Kersey, Greg Willard, Derek Richardson

Not sure how they call 'em.

It truly IS a joke in the officiating department.
Shaq can just bash against his man as much as he likes and the minute they lift a hand to defend themselves they get called.

If it was blown properly, Shaq would pick up a lot more offensive fouls for push offs and charges!

    Gater,
That stat line is interesting from the box score you posted, but Timmy fouled out in that game....I think with about 2 minutes to go. Hard to tell what he would/could have done in the last 2 minutes.

    How about this one:

Does Duncan actually guard Shaq? I'm not sure about how the two team match up defensively but Duncan usually plays PF doesn't he? Besides, its usually considered bad practise to have your best player playing on their best player. I haven't watched enough Lakers/Spurs games to know how they handle it.
