Ok, so we have all been raving about Chandler's defense lately and we've seen a lot of Battier comparisons, which got me thinking of all those great games/ playoff series where Kobe and Shane would go at it. Shane would never "shut him down" but, he made life harder on him out there and you could see the frustration build up. So, KD is the premier scorer in the NBA right now (as was Kobe back in the day.) And, I think that Parsons has shown himself to, at least have the potential to be, a premier defender in this league. They are both still very young.(both 23) So I ask you, do you see this as a match -up to watch for years into the future? (Poll coming soon.)
I think the key to Kobe-Battier was Shane's prior national reputation as a great man-defender. If Parsons develops that, this matchup could very well bring more of the same.
I think that if the Rockets get to playoffs and face the Thunder, Parsons will get some of that recognition. For the most part that's how Shane got to be known around the league. (for his match-ups against Kobe. )
Absolutely, but you don't think in 4 years (when both are in their prime) that Parsons can continue to improve his technique and become more notable(get fouls called on him less) to be more Battier-like? One spot where Shane has a big advantage over Parsons is drawing charges, Shane would always get one or two of those a game.
kobe still got his clutch points from battier, even till this day. Kd and kobe suffocate when Parson defends.
That was prime Kobe though. Kobe is still great and a top tier player but the Kobe that Shane faced was a lot more athletic back in the day.
I hope not because Kobe always ended up on the better end of the stick. I don't want any moral victories.
Kobe won rings. Why do we always have to be the batter/parsons "nice effort" team? Why can't we be the team with DURANT and kobe
Um first of all, Kobe vs Battier wasn't really a match, Battier defended him a couple of times in the beginning but after stories circulated that Battier was the "Kobe-stopper", Kobe took it personally made Battier his b****. Secondly I have higher hopes for Parsons and don't want his career to be defined as a "Durant stopper". I want him to be a star player period, durant's just one of the dudes he locks down every night.
