The cost of conducting a political cmapaign, whether it's a national, statewide, or local campaign has seriously gotten out of hand. The amount of money raised and spent - hard, soft, illegal, whatever - is truly obscene! I haven't seen a "Voter Awareness" or "Voter Registration" campaign yet that wasn't partisan on one side or the other. For the life of me, I can't understand why someone would spend millions of dollars to obtain an office that pays less than $200K a year. Maybe it's the perks or an ego thing. In any event, we need change! The Democrats rave about campaign finance reform and big business (even though they get their share of business contributions), while the Republicans refuse to unilaterally disarm" themselves, because the Democrat proposals do not prohibit groups like the unions and so-called non-profits such as Planned Parenthood and People for the American Way from continuing to contribute. Neither party seems wiling to sit down and work out an acceptable compromise. Campaign financing is a shame and a sham. Seems to me it doesn't take the proverbial rocket scientist to work out a reasonable solution. Of course, the media would fight it tooth and nail, since campaigns are a veritable cash cow for them. ------------------ "Who Wants To Be A Rocket?" - and probably a millionaire as well. The off-season will be interesting!
I disagree..the media loves the idea of campaign finance reform. You hear the talking heads push for it constantly...see how they embraced a Republican, John McCain. I would support campaign finance reform if the media weren't so biased. But as long as there is unequal coverage I will not support any measure that takes away from the Republican's ability to use "soft" money to buy media time. At the same time, I'm not certain that any real meaningful campaign finance reform laws would stand up to First Amendment scrutiny. ------------------
How is the media biased? Oh, are you talking about Fox News? ------------------ I've posted so much that what I say must be true. The latest on Maurice Taylor
CNN(Clinton News Network) comes to mind. ------------------ Houston Rockets Forever!! In Rudy We Trust
Dennis, LOL! I'm actually about to post a separate topic about this, so as not to take away from Bobby's thread. I've always found this complaint about the media interesting, so I'm curious to see... ahhhh nevermind. sorry Bobby! ------------------ I've posted so much that what I say must be true.
