Every day I get 5 or 6 calls from scammers/telemarketers using different numbers every time. I block the number but then they just use a different number.

I'm on the Do Not Call List (LOL...) and there's no way to report these guys because they never leave a message and the callback number is just fake anyway. They are literally un-traceable. I never answer and when I google the number it comes back as some payday loan scammer or fake home security company.

How in the world do I get these calls to stop? Anyone else get these calls?

Damn, 5 times a day? I get maybe one a week.

I attempt to proactively combat this by giving a fake phone number when a company asks me for one, because I don't trust that they don't somehow sell my information to such scammers.

"No, haircut place or retail store or website or pizza place or car servicing place, you cannot have my phone number (or first and last name, for that matter). But if you insist then I will give you a fake phone number and a fake name."

I'll be interested to see if anyone knows a way to get these scammers off your back.

On the iPhone you can change a setting to only allow calls from your contacts.

Try this service for free. The guy won some contest with the technology and made a company out of it. Supposedly works against spoofed #s too.

Yeah, but I still need to receive calls that aren't necessarily from contacts.

Verizon doesn't support it. Why list Verizon as one of the options if they don't support it?

These block restricted numbers but can't do anything about spoofed numbers.

Try Mr. Number it has a list of calls that are marked Spam that you can block. If a new one comes on you can just mark that one as Spam and itll block it going forward.

I get these calls all the time. Nearly 1 per day. Got a call from a Puerto Rico area code the other day. I told my wife, we need to ditch the landline. It had merit at one point when our kids were older and didn't have cell phones...but now it doesn't. It's more of a tool for fraud at this point than a help to me at all.

Just tell them you are really interested, and to hold for a second.

Put the phone on hold, and come back in 30 minutes. Eventually they get the picture and stop calling.

I had that on my last Android phone, but again, if they use a different number every time they call, it doesn't do much good to mark it as spam. They usually only use a number once before changing it again.

I do this kind of thing when it's a 1-800 number, but any time I've actually answered one of these spoofed calls, no one even says anything. I just hear a bunch of voices in the background.

I read somewhere that it's because these guys typically are calling 3 or 4 different numbers at the same time and don't say anything until they get an answer from every line. Then they give their pitch to everyone at the same time. Bizarre.

They are calling from internet-based services, so there isn't much you can do outside of using a service or app to filter or block them out.
