Do you pick Harden or LeBron first for your team if you need to win a seven game playoff series? That’s not the only way of looking at it, but I think that’s essentially how most people look at the question of best overall player. For merely “best offensive player” people tend to ignore the hypothetical question of who would win in the playoffs and focus just on skills and impact in a typical NBA game.
What is overlooked often about Harden, is that even when he is looking for a foul with his weird shooting motions, he would probably make the shot if he wasn't fouled. Most of the time, the ball hits the rim when he is fouled, and often the ball goes in for an AND 1.
