what exactly is this negotiating tactic? No team can offer him more than the max, and he is already a max FA guy with 1/3 of the league running to sign him.
So what exactly does this negotiating tactic provide? He didn't say he will take meetings 1st July he said he will outright decide 1st July.
Immaturity that he is showing the team who gave him the opportunity to get to this point that he can't wait even a single day and he sees himself as the no.1 priority they should have no matter Durants, Wades etc.

Can't wait to see head case Whiteside in the Hollywood environment. He'll blow up & get T'd out of the league.

Turn this around quickly? They've been in the lottery for three years in a row.

Miami doesn't want to offer the max. This forces their hand - they have to make a decision whether to offer the max right away or risk losing him.

Nonsense - he owes nothing to Miami. This is a business, and like every other player, one of his key goals is to get the most money at the place he wants to be. No player is going to see himself as less than his own #1 priority.

Where did you get that Miami is even considering not offering the max? Whiteside getting the max has been long since a foregone conclusion and him and his agent saying he's going to decide on the first day of july does nothing to change it one way or another.

Sure he owes nothing to miami. At the same time he can't wait for a couple of days to make his decision? Like you know every single max FA that is getting multiple team meetings?
No player is going to see himself as less than no.1? Really?

Whiteside is the kind of player you need to stay away from. Far far away

Regardless of whether he reallydeserves the max, it's still pretty amazing that a guy who was waived by two NBA teams, bounced around the D-league and overseas is even being discussed this way.

    Credit to him for improving.

Who knew that Rim protection centers that learned how to shoot get paid..

All the Deandre Jordan comparisons are silly, Jordan can't shoot 50% on jumpshots, Jordan can't hit 75% of his FTs.

    He's sort of a real-life NBA 2k MyPlayer.

The only great move Kupchak has made since Jerry West left the Lakers is stealing Gasol away from the Grizzlies, but Memphis got Marc in that trade so it doesn't look as bad now as it did when it was made.
