Gary Kubiak to take over Broncos

Gary Kubiak has agreed to become the head coach of the Denver Broncos, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

After spending a years as the Ravens' offensive coordinator, Gary Kubiak will rejoin the head coaching ranks, according to a source.
Kubiak spent the past season as the Baltimore Ravens' offensive coordinator.

Prior to joining the Ravens' staff, Kubiak had served as head coach of the Houston Texans.

Kubiak had said following the Ravens' loss to the New England Patriots last week in the divisional round of the playoffs that he was staying in Baltimore, but had a change of heart when the Broncos job became available.

He has ties to the Broncos as well as the team's general manager John Elway, having served as Elway's backup before becoming a part of the team's coaching staff following his retirement.

Kubiak will replace John Fox who parted ways with Denver following the team's divisional round playoff loss to the Indianapolis Colts a week ago. Fox has since been hired as head coach of the Chicago Bears.

The Broncos' hiring of Kubiak leaves the Atlanta Falcons as the lone team without a head coach.

What if? Kubes shops Manning and steals Mallett away from the Texans and they become an AFC powerhouse? I just made myself ill.

Fantasy scenario aside - Brock Osweiler's value is superior to Mallet's.

Nothing would make me happier than an Oakland's 3rd String QB & boobiak reunion!

Interesting.... Kubiaks offense were statistically efficient. But did not necessarily translate to wins.

Great quote from Joel Dreessen in this Woody Paige article:

I wish Kubiak could have taken the Texans all the way, but that's all in the past now. Will certainly be interesting to see how he does the second time around now in Denver.

Another interesting tidbit was that the Broncos (and Elway) would have hired him to take over if the Texans had fired him in 2010.

We always heard how the players loved him and would run through a wall. blahblahblah I wonder why they didn't run through that wall when they lost 14(11 under Kubiak) in a row.

Ho hum John Fox. Yeah, say what you want about his ability to get them over the hump but will Kubiak match or exceed what he did? I don't know!

I think that Gary Kubiak is a better coach than John Fox.

    That isn't saying much.

Should have stayed in Baltimore; just don't see him as head coach material. Well, at least the AFC won't have to worry about Denver for a few years.

Broncos should know better. Maybe he'll give them a couple of good years before falling off the ledge.

Pretty short-sighted post... the guy is universally well-liked and had real success here in Houston.

He's already had success as an OC... won two Super Bowls... why would he want to continue doing that when he can be a head coach?

Obviously, their short-term success hinges on Manning and his health... but it wasn't that long ago when Kubiak was the ultimate QB whisperer (and maybe Osweiler has potential that he can unlock).

I think the Broncos are smart enough to give Kubes help, Texans let him be HC/playcaller which put him way over his head.

It'll be the same in Denver. Kubiak as HC, Rick Dennison will be the "OC".

If Baby Shan would have went with him there could have been something to fear but I dont see the Texans 2.0 working in Denver.

Fox took a Kerry Collins led team to the Super Bowl and a Tim Tebow led team to the playoffs (and won a game there). He may not be exciting, but he seems to find a way to get stuff done.
