    Austin package explosion leaves teen dead, woman hurt after second blast in 2 weeks

    A teenager was killed and a woman was seriously hurt after a package exploded at an Austin home early Monday in a blast similar to another deadly incident nearly two weeks ago in Texas' capital city, officials said.

    Austin Police said they received a call about the explosion in a neighborhood on the northwest side of the city around 6:45 a.m., after the 17-year-old resident found a package on the front step, brought it inside, and opened it in the kitchen where it exploded.

    "It is very similar to the incident that occurred in Austin on March 2," Austin Police Chief Brian Manley told reporters.

    Manley said authorities don't believe the package came from a delivery through the U.S. Postal Service, and the placement on the home's front doorstep indicated a similarity to the blast earlier this month.

    This doesn't seem to be through the mail from what I just heard on the news (could be wrong) -- seems like someone is putting them on people's porches, doors, etc. -- they look like something that was mailed.

    It looks like the two explosions today were on the east side. If you see an unexpected package on your doorstep, call the police.

    The link in OP does list the connection at the bottom. It could very well be a factor as the story develops, or it could be coincidence.

    Have they identified the race of the elderly woman?

    If race is a factor it should be investigated.

    It's a fact that CNN detailed the race connection at the forefront of their reporting. The foxnews linked story embedded the connection at the very end of their story.

    CNN helped me understand the details of this investigation better.

    They should continue to investigate the connections and report factually and accordingly.

    Actually I'm comfortable with my reply at the time I read the original article, which had the information l mentioned buried at the bottom after a "read more" click prompt, too close to the comments section for comfort.

    CNN continues to provide time stamped updates as the story develops in real time.

    Yes, three total.

    There was one 10 days ago, and 2 today. At first, details of the 2nd one today didn't exactly say it was a package-bomb, but now they are confirming it was.
