The parents claimed they take extraordinary steps to child-proof their home. Yet, they never even thought or heard about furniture falling over as an issue needing to be addressed. This with TVs constantly being knocked over and such. I would say that family is extremely fortunate. I would bet that dresser came with the tools to secure it and it was in the instructions. Else, they may have a case for a lawsuit.
Even if they included mounting hardware, the furniture manufacturer could still face legal issues when parents don't mount it. Ikea had to recall a bunch of dressers recently because their dressers were easy to tip over unmounted even though hardware was included.
I don't know the specifics of this case... sounds like parents didn't even make an attempt to attach mounts. That said, while we have mounts on all our furniture that could fall... I am none too confident in those mounts. I have not drilled into studs...
That's horrible parenting. I have 2 little ones and I never leave them alone. These kids did not just wake up, they look like they were tossed in there. Makes me sick that these lazy dangerous parents are getting praised on good morning America.
They were in their pajamas, so it may be that the kids woke up and started playing... Now a days my 2 year old wakes up, opens his door, and just strolls over to our room. Luckily his hasn't gone anywhere else yet. We generally hear him, but there's been a couple of times he's surprised us.
This is why my 4 year old nephew is made to wear a helmet and is kept inside a padded room for most of the day. Better safe than sorry.
It looks like the real hero is the pink ball on the floor that takes the weight of the dresser, but if your looking for a coward then watch how the macho dumptruck thinks of nothing but itself and high tails it the p**** out of the way.
I feel like the dressers my parents had were so much heavier, they would never have fallen over. (or if they had, they would have crushed me).
My son is 6. The only situation I ever had happen like this was when he woke up in his crib and I didn't know. Finally after being curious why I had not heard him yet, and went to check on him. Well he was awake. He had pooped and gotten his diaper off. He had on the walls, curtains. crib, the crib bumpers, the mattress, blankets, his clothes, and himself. It was freaking awful. I should have taken a picture to show off later in life for making me clean that.
