    Patrick Beverly, Dwight Howard and Omer Asik are arguably 3 of the top 10 individual defenders in the league... With that being said, how does a team with 3/10 elite defenders IN THE ENTIRE LEAGUE become anything less than a stellar defense? OUR TEAM DESPERATELY NEEDS A COACH WITH A DEFENSIVE SCHEME!!! Heck ANY scheme for that matter... Lionel Hollins coming here is more important than any free agent signing IMO. We can get Lowry... What difference will he make? We had good defense from the PG spot last year... How in the hell is it possible to be such a bad defrensive rebounding team with Asik and Dwight on the same team??? THEY LED THE LEAGUE IN REBS THE YEAR PRIOR! We need an X's and O's coach and we need someone who preaches defense... Lionel Hollins is that dude! Get the coach...whatever it takes..overpay... Coaches salary doesnt go against the salary cap... and then shoot for the stars.

    I agree with your assessment but I'm assuming signing a Melo/Lebron would make that transition for Hollins to an assistant that much easier. Guessing Morey goes all in and if/when he lands Melo/Lebron uses it as leverage for Hollins or any other coach to get on board.

    Do you think getting Hollins First would make the transition of a major FA signing here much more doable? I imagine the pitches to these top FA's to address the elephant in the room (Defense) with the acknowledgement that we have a defensive mind implementing schemes...

    I feel like the Rockets' management is competent enough to handle roster transactions and the coaching staff at the same time, but yeah good thread.

    That's a good point and really depends on who you are recruiting. If you're talking to Lebron not having an assistant coach could be a positive. You can show him all the stats on how he'll improve the defense working with Dwight/Bev and then can give him the choice to help pick the assistant. If you're talking to Melo I don't even think he would won't to talk about defense. From a coaching standpoint it would be hard to turn down a shot to coach a big 3 that could compete for a ring. Just my thoughts but I'm sure Morey has plans in place to achieve what he wants.

    Hollins was not the reason why Grizz were so good on D. It was Joerger. There is reason why Joerger still there & Hollins can't sniff another HC job.
