Whiteside has always been great in putting up stats but not so good in making his team better (Gobert was right), there's a reason Miami wanted to get rid of him but no one traded for him until he was expiring, Nurkic is absolutely a much better defender and player overall. Also losing Harkless and Aminu is probably a big reason why they started so bad, both those guys are really good defenders on at least three positions, good athletes, can shoot...and (another thing to consider maybe) both were there from many years so they had perfect understanding of the system and chemistry with the other players. Long story short, for one reason or another they probably lost all their defense which was hiding really well two average (at best) defenders like Lillard and McCullom.

Dude, Melo will have some decent offensive games, but he is going to be huge negative on the defensive end. Blazers already struggling defensively, they don't need Melo. Enjoy eating crow yourself.

I'm real. Been a Blazer fan since the early 70's. I don't hit other team sites to troll though. And just when I thought our season couldn't get any worse. SMH.
We've witnessed the last two years that he can't compete on defense, that's the problem. Think about it, a rookie Gary Clark got him out of the line up, who sucked offensively but at least was competitive on the defensive end. Melo is a terrible defender. He needs to be a huge offensive juggernaut to avoid being a negative and that's not happening at this stage of his career.
