Barry Jenkins's 'Moonlight' follow up is an adaptation of James Baldwins novel. Getting lots of praise at TIFF today. Being compared to some of the best melodrama's of the 50s.

    Movie looks great.

However, what do you mean by "Black Cinema?" What in the hell defines "Black Cinema?" Does it have to have a fully black cast, or a black writer, director or producer, or all of the above? Or does the story just have to be about African American culture or history? I'm at a loss. Should we label moves about the holocaust "Jew Cinema" or "White Cinema?" I truly don't understand the thought process or need.

The move should be the one that tells the story, it doesn't need the help of useless labels to do so. In my opinion, labeling it "Black Cinema" does it more harm than good, and not because of people's prejudice, but because it puts a work that likely thinks outside the box, right back into one.

It really is confusing. I tuned into a 90's "dark comedy" but it was all whites and an asian. I didn't really like Moonlight. And the Tree of Life style shots don't necessarily automatically win me over. But this one definitely looks interesting. But so did Moonlight.
