None. Spurs aren't trading him to us.

can't they just get the #4 pick from MEM in exchange for eating Portions contract instead of wasting the kauai trade asset on that?

Does anyone think that this is a possible scenario if LBJ does get traded to the Rockets?

    CP3/Chalmers
    Harden/Green
    LeBron/Ariza
    PJ/LMM
    Capela

    CP3 - 30
    Harden - 35
    LBJ - 35
    Capela - 15
    Ariza - 10
    PJ - 7.5
    Green - vet min ~2?
    LMM - vet min ~2?
    Chalmers - vet min~2?

That's about 138m in payroll before you factor in the young guys and maybe another vet.

@BimaThug do you know what the total with taxes for a team like that would be? I'm trying to figure out what the Rockets can really pay Ariza and Capela before the taxes get ridiculous. Thanks!

The problem is that the rockets had everything go right this year, but honestly, unless lebron comes, sinking 80 million in luxury tax to keep paul and capella, and even more if they sign Lebron, will hurt this team, even as early as next year.
I don't think the rockets are on a come up, I think this WAS their year.
The problem is that the front office will be chasing that glory to their doom by doling out contracts at a dizzying rate.
Chris Paul was one hamstring away from maybe getting a title, the titans were 1 yard away

Here is a link to a handy chart showing how to calculate the luxury tax: http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q18

Current projections have the luxury tax threshold for 2018-19 at $123 million, so work from there until there is a definitive threshold to work from.

Agreed. It makes no sense to pay $80 million luxury taxes for this team. That's why I keep insisting Capela should be signed and traded or let walk if Cuban or somebody else gives him an idiotic offer.

And we either have to stretch our wonderful stretch forward who did all this stretching for us or we have to trade him and $10 million for a can of biscuits. Then throw in 4 picks and Eric Gordon for the king.

you are too pessimistic, some great guards still play at high level at age 37/38, cp3's game doesn't reply much on athleticism.

Going off this piece from Bima's article, can we somehow keep Gordon, and still trade for LeBron, assuming he opts-in.

Any trade for LeBron will need to include Anderson or Gordon, possibly both. (For those trying to add up salaries, the Rockets will need to send out at least $26,548,568 if they consummate a trade prior to July 1, or at least $28,406,375 if they make a trade after July 1.) If Anderson is not included, then any trade will need to include Gordon, Tucker and a whole bunch of smaller salaries. If Anderson is included, he (along with potentially significant assets) may need to be sent to a third team. Gordon could possibly headline the package going to the Cavs.

So we need to send out $26,548,568 before July 1, or $28,406,375 post July 1 to make a LeBron to HOU deal work, and Anderson needs to be included, with draft picks to whoever takes on Anderson's deal.

My question is, does this $26M-$28M need to be 2017-18 or 2018-19 salary numbers, so is it Anderson's $20.421M for this coming season, or his $19.578M from 2017-18 season.

Would they deal Nene in this potential deal, can they? Does he have any way of turning it down, like a no trade clause for being a veteran, not sure how NBA contracts work.

I guess I'm being greedy, but i would love to see them keep Gordon, CP3, Ariza, Capela, LMM, and Tucker.

Yes, they could (hypothetically). But it would take a boatload of future assets to get that done. Possibly as many as FOUR future first round picks.

Thanks Bima, I figured it'd take a boat load of picks/assets. Hoping for the best.
