Bill O'Brien to call plays; not hire OC

How so? O'Brien could have benched him all year and only did for a couple games.

Yeah, see. So, according to O'Brien, nothing changed when he "took over playcalling" because he has always been responsible for all of the plays. He is even so cool that he calls other areas of the game (he so desperately wants Belichick to approve...but BB is really good at every aspect of the game). So in his world Godsey was kind of an advisor. OB dictated the offense. The offense was putrid. The offense has gotten worse every year he has been here. So...go away, Godsey, I will be the OC now? I have always been the OC but now things will be different because Godsey won't be suggesting things that confuse me?

So weird. The organization doesn't even want to pretend like it has a plan. Or an understanding of football organizations.

 

Seems BOB is saying it's the coordinators job to mentally prepare the players to execute the game plan.

As he takes on more of that role in the offense, Romeo will take on more of the red tape job that Head coaches do. It seems BOB is a workaholic, so the moves make sense. Somebody needs to take some of his duties if he is going to be the OC too.

It's all about execution, regardless of the game plan, when you get to this level. Everyone is super talented, so who out thinks their opponent wins.

I'm not sure that he really could have though. With the money they were paying him, Osweiler was going to play for a long while no matter what. Now that it's all on him and with no other scapegoats to blame, I doubt O'Brien is going to passively risk his coaching career and allow that kind of performance and inefficiency to go on for as long. I mean, would you? His reputation is on the line. I get the feeling Osweiler will be on a much shorter leash nest season.

 

Alex Smith played well in his first year with the Chiefs, and has been playing well for them since. They got a better group of guys than what Romeo had. They are not good enough to win a Super Bowl, but better than what they had in 2011-12.

Hopefully someone can explain this to me - if plays are actually being 'called' by a coach, what is Brock doing before the snap when he's yelling and gesticulating and giving the defense more time to get set and rest before each play? If the play has already been 'called', why take so long to snap the ball? Are you telling me that the coaches are telling Brock the play and then telling him to yell a bunch of stuff, point at some guys and wait until right before the 30 second clock expires before executing it? What benefit are we getting out of that?

 

Why?

 

The amount of time and dedication it takes to be a coach in the NFL, I seriously doubt he has the "stick-with-it-ness" to even be considered for that job.

He's calling out the mike to adjust the play for blocking schemes and blitz pickup. Play has already been called and is being adjusted.

 

I remember the first season we had OB. We were all like "Kubiak would have never called that play. I love this guy he is aggressive and unpredictable." Now I don't know what happen to that. He is more predictable than ever more conservative than Kubiak ever was. I think maybe since OB hasn't had a consistent qb that he's confident in is the reason why he has regressed with play calls. I mean he's had 8qbs since he's been here it's hard for our coach to gain confidence as well. Every qb has different traits and it may be hard to jam all his plays into all these different qbs and find out what works best for them.

 

He had Kubiaks OL, Arian Foster and better TEs. And a QB much better than Osweiler

Even then the offense wasn't genius level IMO.

Then he got "his guys" and it has gotten worse

 

Are all of the reputable OC's off the board yet? Is it too late for the Texans to change this? I mean, seriously. They really should hire an OC.
