Y'all know DDL has won three Oscars, the current winner (Lincoln) and very recent (There Will Be Blood), and previously (my left foot)

    yet,

Leonardo has none to his name. Somewhat like when Sean Penn didn't have any either.

There are no two bigger talents here as best actor ... so who is it? I can't decide

    Daniel Day-Lewis or
    Leonardo DiCaprio

No, this is a real poll. The two best actors currently right now. Who's best.

Well, you have one of the best actors currently right now on your list. Once you get past Kevin Spacey, Sean Penn, Javier Bardem, etc., then maybe we can talk about DiCaprio.

    I'd pick Randy Quaid

    I celebrate his whole catalog

You did see my comment about Sean Penn in the OP, right. I told many ppl that Sean Penn and Forrest Whitacker were two of my favorite actors over 15 yrs ago, but they won't consider them for Oscar, because of Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

But, I was right. They now have 3 Oscars between them.

And if you don't think Leonardo DiCaprio is a great actor right now, arguably next to DDL, then vote for DDL in this poll? And call me stupid.

    fair enough

    My list would go:

    DDL
    Leo
Johnny Depp (though I wish he would make some normal ass movies)
Tom Hanks (used to be number 1)

Leo's a good actor but he doesn't belong in the "elites" category.

The elite actors, actually jaw-dropping good, to me, who are alive and active, would include:

    Daniel Day-Lewis
    Javier Bardem
    Philip Seymour Hoffman
Joaquin Phoenix (for these last two, watch "The Master", a weird movie, but I would have been perfectly fine for PSHoffman to have won Best Supporting Actor)
Meryl Streep (getting away from the dudes for a minute)

Kinda Friday-tired right now, can't think of the rest.

So, you put Leo in the Schaub category.

Sorry, couldn't resist. I hope I didn't depress any Texans' fans with my analogy.

    This. Broken poll is broken.

    Should be DDL vs Spacey.

Note: I didn't say "Best Actor" in the title

You still have time to post a thread called:

    Better Actor: Bardem or Spacey

do it! I dare you! I bet you Spacey will lose to Bardem.

And then we just need one more thread of two actors,,,which makes eight ...then we can take the winners and create a Final Four thread

Daniel Day-Lewis is one of the greatest actors of all time, and I always see everything that he is in. However, I'm not a fan of Leonardo at all. I will concede that Leo is a good actor, but he looks like a little boy to me, and that makes it difficult to enjoy his work. Leo will probably appeal to me a lot more when he's about 60 years old and looks more like an adult.

I don't think I've ever seen anything with DDL. Infact I had to see the Lincoln reference before I even knew who he was. I voted Leo. My heart will go on...... and on.

EDIT: just looked at his imdb list, and I haven't seen any of his movies. I need to go watch Lincoln and Gangs of New York though.

Dicaprio is a good actor but not anywhere close to Daniel Day Lewis. I didn't see J. Edgar Hoover so I can't say how convincing he was in that role but the other role that he really had to stretch his acting chops was as Howard Hughes in the Aviator. While he did a good job he never felt fully convincing.

Another example is with both of them going head to head in The Gangs of New York. DiCaprio was good but Daniel Day Lewis' Billy the Butcher was incredible.

    Daniel Day Lewis. No question.

Kevin Spacey, Javier Bardem, Tom Hanks, Joaquin Phoenix, Phillip Seymour-Hoffman, and Morgan Freeman are all better than Leo IMO.

Agree with this. The Gangs of New York is a great movie and while DeCaprio did well in it, Lewis was amazing.

DDL is the best actor ever.
