Stuff like this should matter for the primary, but not general election. You are voting for policies, not people. I am assuming people on the left want higher taxes and more regulation, so they should vote for whomever can best make that happen. old or recent personal mistakes are irrelevant to this.

Another way to say it is you are hiring someone to do a job. What do you care if they are drunk, mean, dumb, or have a bad past as long as the job gets done.

It sounds like you missed the point about Kavanaugh's drinking. Him drinking heavily in college and high school wasn't the issue. Lying about it (which Beto did not do) was an issue. If the drinking caused him to not properly recollect events such as sexually assaulting someone was the issue. Drinking wasn't the issue.

Well that is substance. I don't view Ms. Marvel as a senator I'd ever want to represent Texas, you view her as an "excellent senator", thus I hope you never feel as though Texas has any "excellent senators.

It would be similar to if someone said that their idea of an excellent meal was skyline chili and another replying that they hope to never have their idea of an excellent meal......because skyline chili is garbage.

Except they didn't say what it was about skyline chili that they found objectionable. I really don't care if somebody likes a different food than I do unless they elaborate about the flavors, cooking technique, etc. That might be interesting. Other than that, I have no reason to care.

Bobby has never said anything nice about a Democrat so I think the substance of his argument would be "DEMOCRAT = BAD!" and that would be about it.

sure but i'm speaking to the artificial costs (uni 50k+!!) and effect creating the slave debt society. make it unattainable or unsustainable so you either keep the people dumb or broke. it's by design and it doesn't take a conspiracy nut to know that.

I am pretty sure trump said cruz's dad was involved in the assassination of a sitting U.S. President. I think America wouldn't want the son of a political assassin in government. 'Course, the trump is an accused rapist, tax dodger, money launderer and Russian traitor... and American elected him.

... I am confused, what was your question?

Generally speaking this is accurate. Democrats, especially today, have pretty terrible political opinions for the most part. Once upon a time there were some Democrats where I shared common ground with mostly on social issues.....but that was back when sane Democrats could be found, long before the inquisition started and our friends on the left were forced either to head to the fringes or be denounced for heresy.

I mean, there was a time when I was equally likely to disagree with Republicans as I would with Democrats....I miss those days. Now it's basically I disagree with Democrats nearly all the time and while i'm not more likely to agree with Republicans these days than in the past, by comparison it seems like I agree with them all the time....at least to our friends on the left.

The Republicans are still a fiscally irresponsible party that has some really stupid stances on social policies.....but for the most part the Democrats are worse. They are even more fiscally irresponsible and they are infested by socialists, identitarians, and other bottom of the barrel type nonsense.

I dont blame him for lying. They were so far up his ass about anything he said or do. If he would of admitted to drinking like everyother college student they would have tried to burn him alive with the statement saying "look theres proof hes an alcoholic rapist". No doubt in my mind that would have been the narrative if he didnt downplay it.

Not saying its the same as sexual assault(which I think she was lying) but its basically the same thing as how every person just says 2 beers when an officer or your parents ask how much you drank that night. Nobody in there right mind would be like "i had 8 beers officer".

When college was relatively affordable, people viewed it as a "right of passage" type thing.

Now that it's crazy expensive (I'll leave the why that is alone for now), people are beginning to rethink the necessity of college.

I think increasingly, people will, and should:

--compare the likely earnings of a particular profession versus what it will cost to get the necessary degree

--search for alternatives--I know the Phoenix and DeVry institutions have been rightly labeled as "diploma mills," but I think more cost effective alternatives will begin to emerge

--just get a quick associates or go into the work force after high school. Obviously, the job market for a HS diploma isn't that great, but in the age of the internet and YouTube, colleges and universities don't have a "lock" on knowledge the way they used to.

In summary, unless you are going to be an engineer or accountant or doctor or something like that, I don't think it's necessary to attend college. The rising costs make it an unattractive option for a "right of passage."

It's unfortunate, because I enjoyed the academic life and probably spent too many years there.

I think the issue here is that you are making excuses for a potential Supreme Court Justice lying under oath. He should tell the truth and face whatever the consequences. Obama admitted to drinking, smoking dope, etc. Beto admitted drinking and owned up to his arrest record. I would rather someone tell the truth. We all have made mistakes.

There is only one way the needle moves at all tonight. Beto cannot be "Uncle Fluffy". Cruz is going to look to put him away...end this race now. Beto has to be on the offensive. He has to force Cruz to defend his relative lack of activity in his term. He has to be on the attack. Anything less and you'll see the gap widen. I hope he can do it because simply being the better candidate isn't enough anymore.

This is something I can get behind. My mom's best friend has two sons in their mid- to late 20s. The eldest spent 8+ years at UH getting an undergrad degree through a combination of bad study habits, laziness and inertia. It was clear early on that he shouldn't be in a four-year university because of the financial cost to himself. Now that he's finally out of school, he can't find a job because he's competing with people in their early 20s who have robust internship experience and are willing to work for peanuts. UH was all too happy to keep taking his money year after year when he should've dropped out and learned an actual skill.

High schools should not be afraid to point students toward trade schools if it's clear that they cannot hang academically at a four-year school.

Someone tell HR hiring managers not to discriminate and disqualify based on education credentials alone and then maybe it would work.

No, people on the left want the Rich to pay their fair share, and medicare for everyone, and regulations that make sense like realistic gun controls.

People on the left want to take care of everyone as that makes society and our country stronger.

Corporations do not make a country stronger.....they make it weaker.

So you don't care about Kavanaugh lying, which he did, multiple times, in this confirmation hearing to be on the nation's highest court for life, and during his previous hearing to be a federal district judge, but you think Dr. Ford was lying based on "what you think." Oh, that makes perfect sense, dude.

Sure, let's compare confirming a proven partisan liar to the Supreme Court for life, and dismiss a highly educated woman's testimony concerning said liar. This when she had every reason NOT to come forward with her information, and originally didn't intend to do anything more than privately let her representative in Congress know what this man did to her in hopes of getting a thorough investigation of his background, something she had knowledge of as a 15 year old, and to keep herself anonymous. It put her life and the lives of her family in danger, she has received numerous death threats, and has had to move her family at least twice because of them.

Dr. Ford was trying to do her civic duty, with every reason to spare herself and her family what happened during the hearing and what is still happening to her and her family, but she should be disbelieved, according to people like you. Kavanaugh, on the other hand, had his own civic duty to tell the truth at both of his confirmation hearings, and lied. That's the guy you want on the Supreme Court for life. Oh, that makes perfect sense.
