I think the answers thus far are on point. A forward is the best fit. My preference would be a dominant SF over a dominant PF, but a dominant PF in the Blake/AD mold obviously would certainly works. Guys that can hit mid range jumpers, rebound, create off the dribble, get up and down the court. Fill out roster with hustle, good d, and/or stretch 3 pt shooting, rebounding bigs, and then find a Kyle Korver/JJ Reddick type (which they've already found with EG, but still have to consider his health), and another defensive backcourt teammate. I don't think the Rockets have the assets to get any of the guys mentioned. Which is why I've been pushing hard for the Gordon Hayward possibility, even if its small. He's a FA, he's basically Paul George at this point, though for some reason to me seems to be a better fit as the 2nd man next to Harden and for some reason feels like he still more upside.
Anthony Davis is absolutely the perfect fit... except that he just signed an extension and we don't have the assets even if he wanted to be traded to us. He is probably the best in terms of fit and would make us instant contenders.
Yep. Davis is the perfect compliment to Harden. Is a big. Can play defense and protect the paint...can catch all oops but can also pop. Will likely never happen and is too far away to even think about it but yeah. Griffin I don't know....if it didn't work with Chris Paul you have to ask yourself why would it work here? He gets hurt far too often I think. Cousins is likely Dwight part 2. A great player that will hurt chemistry one way or another... George would be perfect but his UFA is too far away. I expect the Rockets to make smallish moves like they did this past offseason to set up a bigger move. I don't think it knocks us out of contention because of James Harden being a MVP caliber player so the wait won't feel too painful.
Anthony Davis, Kawhi, Paul George. But we probably aren't getting any of those guys. George is the only one that looks even remotely attainable.
Bigs just don't work that well in the modern NBA. Boogie, Whiteside, Gobert, Davis, Dwert -- none of them have contributed that much to wins. The only active big who can pull up a team by himself is Marc Gasol, whose main advantage is bbiq. In terms of gettability and fit, I'd say Hayward, George, then Millsap. Griffin can't shoot 3s and is so-so on defense. He'd finish well but he'd create as many problems in the offense as he'd improve.
How about we go simple and pick up Kyle Korver? He would shine with Harden. He would replace Brewer and actually make his 3's.
