I've googled this numerous times and I get all kinds of junkware references, so I'd love to hear if anyone has any experience with this.

Occasionally there are things from the Rockets game that I don't need to post to video, but would be good to pass along as an animated GIF. Does anyone have experience with software that is probably the best for this purpose -- taking a video file and allowing it to be converted and edited as an animated GIF?

    Thanks...

From what I've seen on these boards you should ask Rodman23 - he's the gif master.

Depends on how fast/easy you want to do it. I use Avidemux + Jasc Animation Shop to make gifs since I want a no-nonsense way. But it lacks editing options (like making those funny text many gifs have).

I know people who swear by Virtualdub + GIMP/Photoshop (Virtualdub lets you capture streaming video).

Thanks everyone for the replies... I have Photoshop CS2 but I'll look into CS6 and give it a try. Appreciate it.

Yeah, I have had CS2 forever -- it might be time to upgrade.

Not sure if this would be helpful, but you can create a gif directly from a youtube video here:
