Wow... I thought his back broke in half. Patrick Willis is a beast, look at how amped he gets after the hit. He's a Ray Lewis clone.

He may not get the overall prize, but Vonta Leach has layed some big time hits this season for the Texans, that dude just loves to hit people.

to be honest i dont think that hit was that hard of a hit. i think the reason he even got hurt was because of the guy pulling him down from behind. I think the biggest hit done all year is the one done by ryan clark of the steelers on wes welker.

I bet Matt Cassell isn't on Wes Welker's Christmas shopping list.

I hate defenseless receiver hits like this. I'm not even sure it should have been a penalty but it was kind of a cheap shot, IMO.

its definitely not a penalty because defenders are allowed to take a step and hit an offensive player even if the ball goes out of play. like a defensive linemen hitting a quarterback. but clark knew the ball was out of play and hit him full force. he shouldnt have used that much power in his hit but he is perfectly allowed to hit him. the most it could be is a unnecessary roughness penalty.

Leach doesn't hit people. He bulldozes them.

Damn that was a nasty hit... but:

    1) Welker didn't even have a chance for the football (basically it was a cheapshot). The Smith hit he actually caught the ball and then slowly released it.
    2) The Safety (Ryan Clark) ended up on the ground as well. Willis looked like he was a brick wall and barely budged after.
    3) Welker is 5'9 185 is tiny and anybody who hits him would send him flying. Smith is 6'2 210 and he dropped like Oswald shot him.

They are both great hits though.

Can't talk about hits in an NFL season without the obligatory Hines Ward block. He has at least one of these a year.

That one broke Rivers jaw and put him out the whole year.

Dang that Clark hit was insane. He hit the other dude so hard that he was suspended in mid-air for a split second after. Its like the other dude ran into a brick wall.

That Willis hit is nothing compared to the Clark and the Ward hits, those are the 2 I thought of immediately.

Defenseless Receiver and a Defenseless Linebacker.

    Damn those Steelers hit hard.

Yeah, I'd pick the Welker hit by a landslide. Willis' hit was bad, but I agree though that a big part of that was the guy pinning him/bending him back. Not as impressive.

The Welker/Clark hit was easily the best.
