Hard because I don't ever stay in hotels in Houston. I have a house there. Just on brand rep and public spaces, I'd say Four Seasons.

Since ATW is expensing his hotel, he can probably afford to uber it around too. Maybe even Uber Black!

Haven't stayed there, but long ago I did paint their dining room.

Really? I dig that place, had a great wedding reception there for a friend.

I've only eaten there for an actual dinner once, it was proper. Still good?

Looks like nobody would actually recommend the Granduca? I mean, they are part of the Leading Hotels of the World...

There's a Budgetel off Nasa Rd 1 at FM 270 that's worth looking at.

Traffic in the Galleria area is just terrible. I’d stay closer in town. Four Seasons or ZaZa. ZaZa gets extra points for being so close to the Rice loop if you like getting a jog in. Sure beats any hotel gym.

I’ve heard hotel Granduca in the Galleria is nice. Also, depending on when you come Tillman’s new hotel The Post Oak in the Galleria is suppose to be top notch.

Embassy Suites Downtown is average, but they do have a free happy hour from 5 to 7. Great place to get hammered before a Rockets game or concert at TC.

You can't get an on ramp until south of San Felipe. On the West Loop during rush hour, that's murder.

But, I've never been inside, so maybe it's worth it and I don't know. I just don't recommend the Galleria area to anybody for anything. I hate driving the surface streets there.

I keep hearing this (and it's true), but how is downtown during rush hour better? Aren't we basically comparing River Oaks/Galleria area hotels to Downtown Hotels?

I find it relatively easy to get in and out of The Houstonian compared to downtown Hotels, with its proximity to Woodway and Memorial, plus alternate routes to I-10 entrance ramps. But yeah, would be murder to get to 59 ('er 69).

Not trying to argue traffic, as I'm in now way an expert on that, but isn't downtown rush hour really bad, too?

La Colombe d'Or is nice. Has it's own cozy vibe and great service.

Zaza is nice but it always seems like a cluster F is going on in the lobby and the service is patchy.

Downtown has more access to different freeways. In the Galleria, it’s pretty much all 610, with a little 59 mixed in.

Not The Houstonian Hotel. It's very close to 1-10, 610, and Memorial/Woodway. Just as easy as anything downtown, from my experience.

But yeah, the Galleria itself is hell.

Our parents used to take us to the Hobby Airport Holiday Inn for New Year's. We'd get some Christmas cookies and couple of two liters of Sprite. Back then the hotel movies were on some set top box and you could watch like a 15-minute preview clip of, say, Pacific Heights or Wild Orchid. And Showtime back then was basically Super Dave and Brothers.

The Marriott Marquise is within walking distance to BBVA Compass Stadium. You can take in a Dynamo game.

The Dynamo are a Major League Soccer club.
