Never been to a casino before. I'll be on a road trip going through Lousiana so location doesn't matter. Reading Yelp reviews doesn't seem like a good indicator in this case as they vary a bit. Harrah's in NOLA? L'auberge? (there's two, which one is better?)
Been to both of those. I liked Harrahs better maybe because it's in Nola. Golden nugget is now open that'll probably be fun.
I heard the Nugget is really nice. I wasn't a big fan of Harrahs and L'auberge is nice, but it is out of my price range for table games. Coushatta is good and people complain about Isle of Capri, but I kind of like it. Overall, I don't think you can go wrong with any LC of NO casino if you are going for the gambling. If you need top notch food or entertainment, then that is a different story.
Check out the Golden Nugget that just opened. I think there is a walkway that connects to L'auburge so you can check out both.
My wife and I went to Lake Charles over the weekend. We wanted to visit Golden Nugget and L'auberge to gauge the difference. Well, Golden Nugget definitely has a stronger Las Vegas vibe while L'auberge lacks the overall excitement. Walking through Golden Nugget, we noticed they had a cleaner appearance, a band playing in a bar near the middle of the casino and a much younger crowd. L'auberge seems to capture a targeted audience of an older and on my last dollar crowd. Also, the cigarette smoke hovered throughout the casino and overall looks its age. Only my opinions - hope it helps.
Walking distance yes, but no walkway. I did see a trolley that seemed to travel between the two casinos.
Casinos have a distinct shelf-life before they need to re-invent themselves. The Golden Nugget is brand new, thus its not surprising that it "looks" better than the other options. L'auberge is due for a renovation if they want to stay current... or they could just continue to count the money that I'm sure they make boat-loads of, from all the Texans that go there. The Vegas casinos have perfected the art of not standing pat... the ones that do get left behind as soon as the new places open.
I like Harrah's in NOLA. You also have the rest of NOLA to eat and visit. Golden Nugget in Lake Charles and L'Auberge next door are a great option if you are rolling through there as well. I have not been to GN, but a friend went recently and said it's much bigger than L'Auberge. Lake Charles also has a few other casinos if you were trying to run through a lot of them. Not sure if they are close to one another or not though.
Paragon Casino and Resort in Marksville. www.paragoncasinoresort.com/ Owned By the Tunica-Biloxi Tribe of Louisiana. Off the beaten path, but nice place to gamble.
Went to golden nugget/laburge/isle of capri this weekend. I dont know why GN smoke smell was heavier than laburge but all 3 casinos were super busy during the holidays. We ate at landrys seafood in GN. I have never had such bad service/food in my life. The food came out late and cold. Then the waiter forgot a friends meal. My 20 dollar plate of cat fish came with like 4 tiny pieces of fried catfish. I think I had more hushpuppies than catfish. Lauberge is lauberge same as always, they really need to remodel it and add more poker tables and bigger and grander gaming floor. We finally settled at isle slighty less crowded more of a hole in the wall casino. They had a mini bar serving free drinks regardless if you were gambling or not. Limits are the same at GN as Lauberge, if you want lower limits go to Isle.
