Anybody else on here a fan of desi films like I am?

I'm just looking for the next great one to watch. I'm watching Dil Se as I type so that one can be off my list soon, but I'm looking for more great stuff.

    Some of my favorites:

    Shree 420
    3 Idiots
    Salaam Bombay
    Lagaan
    Salaam Namaste
(I have Lage Raho Munna Bhai, but haven't watched it)
    Monsoon Wedding

I know I'm missing a few I've seen, but I'm open to opening my library.

    Veer Zaara
    Swades
    Kuch Kuch Hota Hai

The list can go on. What all have you seen?

It's hard for me to remember because a lot of the titles are words I'm not all that familiar with. I recently saw that one that was made about village teenagers fighting against the British rule. I want to say it was based on a true story from the Bengali regions at that time. The short of it is that I don't remember the name, but I do remember most of the story.

Another was a comedy about a guy that was trying to fit in with high society and kept getting knocked back. For sure it was a comedy and probably made in the 90s but again I don't know the name. I generally see what people recommend so I'll be looking for:

    Veer Zaara
    Swades
    Kuch Kuch Hota Hai

    Thanks, bhai saab.

    Johnny Gaddar
Dev.D - its a more modern take on the Devdas story (if youve heard of it)
Delhi Belly - there's a hindi version and an English version of this movie
Shaitan - I generally like movies by Anurag Kashyap (he also did Gangs of Wasseypur), and this one gets better after the first half hour or so
    Dil Chahta Hai
    Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara
    Rocket Singh
    Wake up Sid
    Dangal
Omkar - hindi adaptation of Othello
    Special 26

I got to a point probably 5-10 years ago where if I went to the movies I would just pick the title I didn't recognize, that was a good way to avoid blockbusters. When I lived in Westchase the nearest theater was on Westheimer and Dunvale, I ended up watching Happy Ending, and sat partway through Happy New Year. One thing I noticed was a lot of mother jokes.

All the 90's and early 2000's; desi movies these days are too crass, cursing for no reason, their songs make no sense and are too americanized, and rip offs of american films

But then there's gems like 3 Idiots. Don't give up on bollywood. Those dudes are creative when they focus on a unique storyline. The american rip offs make the industry stay afloat. Same thing with the American industry or Chinese film industry. Crap, crap, crap... holy cow.. Admiral was un-freaking-believable.

The focus must always remain on making it look awesome and that is freaking awesome. It makes the action in Terminator 2 look like child's play.

Amal and Udaan, while not necessarily Bollywood are definitely must watch. No singing and dancing though.
