Youre eye is on the wrong prize. If their is a great PG out there that might opt out that we might have a chance at, its AI. I know that people are going to say Im crazy but think about it. AI is 32 years old now and has never won a champoinship despite being one of the best players in the leauge. He left Phili because he knew he had no chance of winning a title there. Now after playing in Denver for a year they are talking about breaking up their core. If things dont start looking up I could see AI bolting. At 32 he doesnt have too much time left to acheive a championship. Its becoming more and more obvious that its not going to happen in Denver any time soon. Out of all the contending teams, who needs a PG the most? What team does he fit the best? With his addition which team is most improved? With his addition which team has the best chance at winning that elusive title that he wants so bad? There is one answer for all those questions ladys and gentlemen, The Houston Rockets!!!!!
When regular season starts next season, Rafer will be the starting point guard. Book it. And he's all we need.
you seriously think he is a PG. dude is has a SG's mentality x2. he only passes when he can't get a shot.
The thing is, Baron is one of those players who want to be the leader of their team, including his big salary, getting baron is close to impossible. I doubt Baron would want to drop all the way down to the third scorer ever since his efforts in GS to take down the Mavs. IMO Richardson was the one Mavs couldn't stop, but still Baron had alot of credit for it. Even so, to get him, we're gonna have to have a huge salary cut. And yes McGrady and Yao possibly would have to take a pay cut. That is if Baron wants to join a winning team and accept the role as a third scorer.
The logistics behind it are too daunting, and then you'e counting on Davis to take a pay cut under the notion that he doesn't think he has as good a shot to win a title in GS. I tend to think otherwise. I think he's just putting the standard feeler out there to try to get the best deal for himself. He absolutely would want to stay in GS, where his success has been unmatched thus far.
Why would he have to be the 3rd scorer? I'm completely convinced that T-Mac has no issue being the 4th or 5th scorer, lol. Either way, we can't afford him.
The only way we'd get BDavis is to give up Tracy. Since that ain't gonna happen...there's NO way. Even if we could get him, how old is he? About 30? Got a couple good years left, then the Rox would have to Shaq him off to Steve Kerr....if Steve Kerr isn't once bitten, twice shy.
How much do you think a Championship ring worth? How much he will be giving up if he sign for MLE compare to a max or close to max contract?
I wonder if some of these guys know that threatening to opt out or leave is only smart if you're worth more than the money offered to you. Someone needs to let Bdiddy, Shawn Marion, Andre Iguodala, and Ben Gordon know because i don't think they've figured out that they really don't have any leverage. If Baron Davis (at his age and health) could net an extention for close to his 17M it would have been done by now.
Why the heck would you want to spend money on a guy (face it is NOT going to sign for MLE) for one position when you still need more help. We can get a high quality, even all-star quality point guard, but we still lack the consistent shoot that is sorely needed. I'd say put the money torwards a quality PG (either start and Rafer off the bench, or off the bench to back up Rafer), and also to a quality shooter. The inconsist shooting on this team could give someone a anger attack leading to a heart attack. It is SO frustrating.
What if we are willing to give up Landry? Sign Landry with part of MLE. Then do a S&T with Golden State: Landry + Head + Bobby Jackson(expiring contract) + filters/ picks for Baron. You think Golden State won't take that? Yao/ Deke? Scola/ Hayes T-Mac / Shane / Novak Baron/ Francis? Rafer / Brooks
