"So, how did such an odious group make the playoffs at all? For one thing, James Harden remains one of the top offensive players in the league — he trailed only Curry in points per game (29.0) and averaged the same number of free-throw attempts as he did in his MVP runner-up season. That was good enough to lead the Rockets to eighth in the league in points per possession, a respectable finish even if it wasn't in line with what they'd hoped for." "The good news is that the elimination of Houston will register a 10 out of 10 on our scale. We cannot wait for their season to be over."
As critical towards my team as it is, I could find little fault with the article in terms of accuracy
I disagree with this. The schedule had nothing to do with it, they won enough games to get in. I hate the asterisks sports writers put on everything.
that's exactly how I saw the Rockets played this season like some random YMCA pick up team with one really good guy that dominates the ball.
It's (barely) legit to talk schedule. We met some teams in the last games who had completely given up and were just trying to get better draft position. Seriously, Sacramento sitting their starting lineup is a blessing versus, say, playing Kobe's last game or the Spurs or something. And ... "the stretches when the Rockets look like they met each other four minutes before the announcement of starting lineups" ... so much painful yes at this.
jeeze. well said. i've seen pick up games with better chemistry and more complex plays than we run. that said - we really do seem like the dirty dozen. Players brought back from exile to Russia and China, a hated defensive Center who still shows glimpses of dominance, an aloof superstar who likes taco bell for breakfast. it's like the start of a movie.
We are FANATICS that love our Houston Rockets, but your excellent write-up throws cold water in our wet dream of winning big in the NBA, at least this year. Going against a well-oiled machine, perhaps the best if not the most efficient team evee, and expecting success is just not realistic. Losing badly in this series won't be the worst thing in the world. Quite the opposite, it might be the thing that will finally brings us coaches that can set up a system that resembles a disciplined professional sports team.
One of the positive thing for this series would be that Morey will have another excuse that Rockets battle against a historic team.
