I'm looking at purchasing a backyard shed to store my lawn mower, tools and other light equipment. Besides purchasing from Lowes or Home Depot, any recommendations or experiences anyone would like to share would be greatly appreciated.
They typically will put it on blocks with a wooden floor and frame. That wouldn't be ideal for a lawnmower even though they are nice sheds. I think OP might be better off with the flimsy plastic ones from costco or something. Use tie downs for wind.
It's a solution but you are taking up even more yard space and effort to load the mower. The better way is putting the shed on a foundation or the plastic type.
DD, if you can get the homeowners association to approve that, let me know! Somehow, I don't think it would fly, although it would be cool.
At some point when I have a few extra $$ I plan on getting something like this (inexpensive plastic shed): http://www.target.com/p/resin-glide...HTEVMLfkhs2_q5-Ffsc5caAvCH8P8HAQ&gclsrc=aw.ds or http://www.homedepot.com/p/Suncast-...ft-10-in-Resin-Storage-Shed-BMS4900/203065758 The sliding roof seems to make sense to help get things in and out easier. But I will use pavers to lift it off the grass and provide a more solid foundation for the plastic floor.
Some of the carport companies pour slabs for a little extra. Or OP could level out an area thats sunken down a bit and lay cinder blocks for a "slab".
If you have an HOA, I'd ask them first. They've broken the hearts of many a homeowner on this subject...
I know a guy building a super nice storage shed/garage for his motorcycles and dirt bikes. It has ramps and French doors on two sides to ride them in and out. It's also longer, wider, and taller than his HOA allows. He's just banking on them not noticing since he's replacing an older shed with this one.
He probably needs to make sure he doesn't have any crabby neighbors around that turn him in or something, too. Haha. Around where I live, there are people that have had to have driveway extensions, sheds, etc. ripped out/disassembled because they were built without HOA/city approval.

Cheap, easy to put together, hold a decent amount, have handled the northern winters well. Look fine, but obviously not as good as a nice cedar shed would look. Cheap, durable, efficient from a space perspective. Edit: link didn't work. Just google suncast bms2500 horizontal storage shed
Pffft, I would not ask for permission.... Our homeowners has zero teeth, they have no ability to fine you or do anything the most they can do is take away your pool privileges....and I live on the greenbelt so nobody behind to be bothered. D
You lucky dog! We live on a corner and would have to be a bit sedate about it. On the down low, so to speak.
