2 year deal worth 12.5 million dollars. 3rd year team option could bring the deal to 19 million.

Well what a great day to be an Astros fan...we found help for Berkman at the plate and help for Oswalt on the mound.

woody was a lot better then i thought last season. if he finds some of the hometown magic that roger and andy have gotten then we got a steal.

I'm just happy we don't have to face Woody anymore. That guy always seemed to pitch great against us.

Woody is definately one of those pitchers that has ripened with age. Great sigining by the 'Stros on the biggest shopping day of the year. :D

    no kidding

get andy signed, maybe roger for the 2nd half of the season, and get our lineup set.... including backe, we'd have 4/5 hometown guys starting

Backe is out all season long so he is not an option...making the signing of Woody even more of a relief.

I hate to be a debbie downer but I think this is a pretty marginal signing and certainly risky.

woody is obviously not young. I think he has averaged like 26 starts in the past 2 years with declining IP in the past 3.

his home/road splits are not good in the past 2 years. at home he had a 3.38 ERA and 1.18 WHIP in 159.2 IP...pretty nice. but away from san diego he was very bad. 5.70 ERA and 1.54 WHIP in 145.1 IP. YIKES!!

and for his career at minute maid he has had a 4.42 ERA with a 1.41 WHIP in 75.1 IP. pretty average.

if we can get a consistent 6 IP and 3 ERs out of him then I will be happy. I know it's a 4.50 ERA but we need consistency and not a pitcher armed with a nuclear missle in our 4/5 spot. if can do that and give us 30+ starts then it will be great, but I am doubtful he can still eat innings like that.

i don't think we're asking him to be the #2 guy in the rotation. ideally, he'll be #3 for the first half of the season and #4 for the second half. the prospect of having woody williams as my #4 starter for the 2nd half of the season makes me smile.

    I'm thinking the same thing!

To make mine even better, I got a Razor Phone for $29....and XBOX 360 for $99. :D
