This makes no sense. What are they doing with Quintero? If they're releasing him, why not give Towels another shot?
Eh, it's a catcher who consistently puts up a major-league OPS in the low .700s. That's more than we can say about anyone in this organization, currently, so I don't have a problem with it.
Towles is currently on the DL, iirc, (and there's obviously something that the Stros brass does not like about him, other than his prima donna attitute), and Q has been pretty much horrible all season, even behind the plate, surprisingly. Q is out of options, so I'd guess they either go with 3 catchers & send someone (Kata?) down, or Q will be waived.
I don't think Towles' injury is too serious. From Zach Levine's blog a couple of days ago: "Not a link, but J.R. Towles, according to assistant GM Ricky Bennett, will likely be out of action until the weekend with a bad hamstring that has landed him on the disabled list at Class AAA Round Rock." I've never heard about Towles having an attitude problem. Prima donna? What has he done to give you that impression?
I think Jason Micheals will gone. He sucks. Coste is a good pinch hitter and Kata could play the outfield.
That's the word from RR (from people connected to the org), particularly after his demotion last season.
Gotcha... Now that I think about it, I vaguely recall hearing something like that last season. I believe somebody brought it up in one of the threads in this forum. I didn't know if it was legit or just a rumor though.
yeah, pretty sad. at first glance, i said "why? coste is awful", then i realized he is amazingly a clear offensive upgrade from quintero. sad to see you go though Q. you seemed like a guy who enjoyed being a stro.
ummmm towles is a scrub. as well as quintero. where have all the catchers goooooooooone. i miss eusebio.
Since they only have two games before the all-star break, it's not that big of a deal. I suspect something else will happen over the next few days.
