That goes along with what he's saying I think. Arenado was able to sign his 280 mil contract because he had a better-longer track record, so Bregman could've waited until the same time Arenado did and cashed in big time assuming he was able to keep it up. Of course there's always risk that last year was a fluke and he regresses back to just being very good instead of MVP-like

The Astros have come to Correa a couple of times about an extension and he had no interest. Time for Correa to put up or shut up.

Yeah, a lot has change in just 1 week. It’s $99,500,000. Kidding. Such a great day to be an Astros fan. Hopefully we can capped it off with a JV extension before season start.

He and the Astros have cost certainty for a few years, and there's no reason they can't agree to tear up the last year or 2 and give him that mega-extension, ala what Trout just did.

Again, the Astros have tried to workout long deals with Springer buying out a few post arbitration years and Springer wasn’t interested... Correa and Springer play to enter free agency.

Great move if he stays healthy. Go Astros.

One thing to consider, with the swoop of a pen, Alex Bregman has ensured multi generational wealth for his family regardless of how he plays. He can bust his knee and by 30 never have to work for money again.

That is a huge motivator and can be comforting for a player to know he is secure and all he has to do is play stress free.

Which is a really bad move for Springer by the way. He’s old. He’s not going to be that hot a property when he’s a free agent if he ages the way I think he will. He’s looking at an Andrew McCutchens type deal in FA in all likelihood. If that’s all he’s getting (I’m betting he doesn’t get 9 figures) he should just take what the Astros would be offering which I’d bet would have been something like 5/90 going into last year.
I mean, he’s close enough to FA now that I guess it makes some sense to play it out, but he’s going to be well into the twilight of his prime/decline phase of his career entering FA after his 2020 season as what, a 31 year old?

If I offered you $100MM today, or a 50% chance at $280MM in 4 years, which do you take?

The 280MM of course. Bet on yourself like Honey Badger.

I don’t believe you. And if you are telling the truth I’d love to follow you around for a weekend in Vegas sometime bc your risk tolerance would be fun to watch and something I can’t wrap my mind around...
Not saying it’s wrong but it’s a massive gamble.

Dont forget to add the 50% chance at 250mm in 6 years to the 100mm choice.

I think bregman is a better offensive player than Correa. He has very good bat discipline. He also doesn't get hurt as much. Bregman is more like biggio and bagwell.

The fact that he agreed to this (aka didn't receive any upfront money) makes me think that there is something up with a FA (Keuchel) or another extension possibility. It makes a lot of sense when you connect the dots there, considering how close the Astros are to the CBT.

Well im sure he would be willing to listen if the Astros are throwing out 9 figure offers... So since we locked up bregman im sure we have thrown some offers his way. He is clearly betting a hell of alot on himself.

I want them to pay Springs next in terms of hitters. Los needs to prove that he can stay healthy. I'd rather give Correa's money to Verlander and Cole

Whoa. I was literally just now listening to Palilo's show from last Thursday. He was talking about how Alex may've been heated from his arbitration outcome, and I came to post it's probably a bad move to crumb him after the production he given us.

    Then, VOILA.... this thread !!!

Great job by management doing right by him. The bargaining rules exist, but "spirit" of the rules do too..
