One thing I haven’t seen mentioned: I think Luhnow puts VERY heavy emphasis on having additional draft picks. He’s had one virtually every draft. Acquiring Cole (which essentially waives the white flag on Keuchel leaving after this season) makes it likely Houston will have extra picks in both 2019 (for Keuchel, more if Marwin, Gattis, or Morton is a QO) and 2020 (2 for Cole and Verlander). Imagine if the deal is Fisher, Martes, and Moran for Cole and a PTBNL. Fisher was a supplemental pick, which they’ll get back when Cole leaves via free agency. Martes was a PTBNL. And Moran was part of a trade for a 2nd tier pitcher (Cosart); Luhnow can flip McHugh (a 2nd tier pitcher) and get a Moran-like prospect. So Luhnow can essentially trade McHugh for Cole straight up.
Lol those guys just read tweets. They have no idea about baseball. I’m sure 790 is dying right now with nd kalu and Koch. Another 2 who shouldn’t even have a show.
This is exactly why I don't get as attached to prospects with this regime. You can also add that Whitley was a mid to low first rounder. Basically, I feel that as long as they have draft picks... they will eventually replenish the prospect rankings for each top 10 guy they end up trading. We can question the systems graduation success all we want... but one thing this scouting/front office can do (for sure) is select players that seemingly have high upsides and generate huge prospect buzz.
Yeah...so are other people not named Jeff Luhnow. Hoping it's not Whitley and/or Tucker. I'm not as high on Fisher as many of y'all are. I think he's a good athlete and has a decently high ceiling. But I think he's replaceable. Same with Martes. I wasn't impressed with what I saw last season. I like Moran and felt like he was on to something pre-injury last year...but where do you play him?
