Astros acquire Francisco Liriano for Norichika Aoki & Teoscar Hernandez

So definitely a LOOGY with maybe some spot starts against lefty-heavy lineups for ROS right?

 

Loogy and a guy who could throw multiple innings.

He likely improves from throwing less innings.


No way we gave up Fisher.

What's funny is I remember Teoscar performing well vs Blue Jays.

I'm ok with this. We gotta find homes for guys who can't crack the roster. Good get for Blue Jays too and they got better.

 

WTF, seriously? Not that Teoscar is a blue chipper, but I was expecting a mediocre fringe guy. He wasn't gonna help us and Liriano might so still OK with the trade.

Gonna be interesting to see how he fares this year. He's gotta be thrilled, I imagine he heads straight to the show. I think Teo is an MLB player now that his plate discipline has improved.

 

Would rather trade guys like Teoscar who are big league ready and blocked rather than lower level guys who could help well into the future. He's a good player though, should do well in Toronto.

 

8 seasons with an era 5+, I mean seriously, it's just hoping for a lucky roll of the dice. Sipp is actually better. Again, more questions than answers.

 

Ha. Imagine what Sipp's ERA would be if he routinely pitched 6 innings a game. Liriano is way better then Sipp.

Liriano's ERA means absolutely nothing for what we want him to do. He is supposed to come in to get left handed batters out, that's it.

 

Teo's first dinger came off Liriano too

 

Go reread the stats. 3 of those 8 years were the same season. Also, one of the years was his first year in the majors where he pitched 23 whole innings. Not saying he's a savior, but before being too negative, at least be accurate.

I don't know as much about Baseball as others. So I need some help here. Am I supposed to be excited about this sole move at this point. Salary and ERA don't exactly blow my skirt up.

 

This. People don't understand context at all, it is utterly baffling.

 

Personally, wait till the deadline passes and the dust settles. Look at what transpired as a whole.

 

For the Blue Jays, getting Aoki, gives them another selling point to land Otani.

 

If you buy that notion he's a reliever, lefty specialist, putting that burden on an untried reliever whose confidence has been called into question seems a dubious proposition for a team contending for a title.
