Fiers has a 3.89 ERA in 21 starts. Vast improvement over McHugh. The guy is solid. Posted really good numbers in 2013 i believe before an injury? Great trade. Those who don't like it because we got rid of BP need to look big picture.
does this not worry anyone??? whats the deal? mentally checked out? hurt? i think we gave up too much...someone tell me otherwise <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Simple stat Carlos Gomez WAR 2013 8.5 2014 4.8 2015 1.5</p>— Mark Simon (@msimonespn) <a href="https://twitter.com/msimonespn/status/626614063339040768">July 30, 2015</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Fiers has potential too. He could certainly slip into the rotation with a career 3.50 era. as the 4 or 5. Risky to throw him in there now given our success, but technically he's probably a stronger pitcher than McHugh and possibly even Feldman.
Of course you worry, especially when you consider the Mets said no just yesterday and had a lesser package on the table.
Well if he makes boneheaded plays on the bases, he will fit right in here, lol 29 years old and coming off three back to back to back 20+ HR 30+ SB seasons

Don't know enough about the minors, honestly, but sounds like Phillips is a stud. Don't mind, though. Astros are going for it. This is exciting.
I wanna say it was last half of last season that Fiers had a pretty dominant string of about 12 starts to finish the season. And I am not using dominant loosely. Coming into this season he was pretty highly regarded but promptly fell on his face to start the season but has picked it back up to get to respectable numbers. Definitely has good stuff and has that "miss bats" ability. Maybe, maybe he can be moved again if we trade for bullpen help? Doubt it, but I think possible. More likely he is here to limit McCullers and VVs innings.
so the lineup before Springer returns Altuve Tucker Correa Gomez Gattis Lowrie Rasmus/Springer Carter/Singleton Conger Pitchers: Keuchel, Kazmir, Mccullers, Mchugh, Feldman/Fiers Bullpen: VV, Shields, Harris, Sipp, Qualls, Gregorson What do you guys think? maybe a bullpen and a hope that Singleton gets his act together. I like it.
His 2013 numbers were a fluke, he had some ridiculously good, and unsustainable defensive metrics. In reality he is a 3-4 WAR type of player, and thats basically what his performance this season projects out to. His HR/FB rate is down this year, I think a few extra balls are gonna fly out for him and he gets to 20, or close to it.
I agree...had we included Phillips in a trade for a rental SP then I would have been upset. I don't like giving up Phillips...but we got Gomez. Gomez is signed through next yr and Phillips would be knocking in door by then. Just don't have room for him. This years draft class also made Phillips more expendable.
