The Govenator wants 2 NFL teams in SoCal - dream on Arnie! LINK By STEPHEN HAWKINS AP Sports Writer GRAPEVINE, Texas (AP) -- California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said Tuesday he wants the NFL to return to the Los Angeles area - with two teams. After meeting with a group of NFL owners, Schwarzenegger said he was there to make sure "we're getting not only one NFL team to the Los Angeles area, Southern California, but to actually get two teams. That's why I came. Why limit it?" NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue and a committee of 11 owners met to hear proposals from Los Angeles and Anaheim. Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Anaheim Mayor Curt Pringle were there to make separate presentations but joined the governor for a joint session. "There enough room and enough audience to have two teams," Schwarzenegger said. "We just have to all work together and make it happen." Los Angeles, the nation's second-largest television market, has been without an NFL team since the Raiders and Rams both left after the 1994 season. When the NFL expanded in 2002, the new team went to Houston after Los Angeles leaders couldn't agree on a suitable site for the team. Tagliabue, who is retiring in July, has long made it a priority to get a franchise back in Los Angeles. The owners' committee, which includes Dan Rooney of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Jerry Jones of the Dallas Cowboys and Bob Kraft of the New England Patriots, planned to hear stadium proposals from the Anaheim and Los Angeles officials. The cost estimates of $800 million are considerably higher than previous price tags. Anaheim's plan calls for a new facility near Angels Stadium, which was converted to a baseball-only complex after the Rams left. The NFL team and the Los Angeles Angels had shared the stadium. The Los Angeles plan is to construct a stadium inside the existing Los Angeles Coliseum, home to the Rams from 1946-70 and the Raiders from 1982-94. The NFL owners' group won't make any decisions on the proposals during their meeting at a Dallas-Fort Worth Airport hotel. Instead, the group will make a presentation at the league's spring meetings in Denver, scheduled May 22-24. After Schwarzenegger and the two mayors emerged from a 10-minute meeting with the owners, the governor chatted in the hallway with Jones, the Cowboys' owner. The governor returned to Los Angeles immediately afterward. The individual presentations by the cities were later in the day.
What exactly do those markets mean? What does having the number 1 (NYC) or Number 2 (LA) or number 143 market mean?
I believe the market numbers are based on the total number of television households (homes with at least one television) within a predetermined geographic area.
Hahaha -- the city has had several NFL teams and they all leave. How can you expect to support two, when you can't support one?
In my 8th year of playing Madden 06, the New England Patriots moved to Los Angeles and became the Bandits. I didn't know they did relocation in Madden. Do they do it in NCAA football, to different conferences though? I know they do it in March Madness because I was playing as Memphis and got invited to join the Big Ten Conference in place of Penn State.
That is wicked...Did they give the team a new logo and team colors and everything? What did the new logo look like?
Yeah, I've seen this happen in Madden. My friend played a franchise as the Redskins and his team moved to Boston and became the Bats. They had a sweet bat logo and green and black colors. In NCAA Football you can be invited to join conferences too. Madden's franchise is so much more in-depth than NCAA's though. I wish they would create an "AD Mode" in NCAA where you could allocate spending and such like in the franchises in Madden.
Makes more sense to have a team in LA than Jacksonville...but its true, LA residents dont give a crap. Just move the Raiders back.
There is a team that should be moved to Los Angeles, they are currently called the New Orleans Saints. The city that they call home was more or less destroyed last year. I personally like the number of teams in the NFL right now, thirty-two, and would really not like to see another expansion team. If they want a team in L.A. they need to move an existing franchise there, like New Orleans or Oakland.
1) Move the Saints to LA, to the NFC West, move the Cowboys to the NFC South, move the Lions to the NFC East, and move the Rams to the NFC North 2) Move the Jaguars to LA to the AFC West, Move the Dolphins to the AFC South, move the Steelers to the AFC East, and move the Colts to the AFC North Everybody (especially Houston) wins!
Cowboys will never be moved out of their division. Rivalry with NYG, Redskins and Eagles trumps geography. Move Saints to NFC West and move Rams into the NFC South. Rams used to play in the same division with the Falcons and Panthers anyway and their is no love lost between the Rams and Bucs. They'll also never move the Dolphins out of the division with the NYJ and NE. Also the Steelers will never move out of the divison with Cleveland.
