    Security Guarding while Black

An armed guard working at a bar in a Chicago suburb was killed early Sunday by an officer who was responding to a call of shots fired, authorities say.

According to the Cook County sheriff’s office, officers from Robbins, Illinois, and the nearby village of Midlothian were the first to respond shortly after 4 a.m. on Sunday to a shooting at Manny’s Blue Room Bar in Robbins.

An officer from Midlothian fired at the security guard, who was later identified as 26-year-old Jemel Roberson, according to Sheriff’s spokeswoman Sophia Ansari. Roberson was later pronounced dead in a local hospital.

According to Ansari, the initial shooting left four other people with non-life threatening gunshot wounds. At least one of them was believed to have fired shots before police arrived.

The shooting is believed to have stemmed from a prior verbal confrontation, according to Robbins Police Chief Roy Wells.

According to a press release from Midlothian police Chief Daniel Delaney, the investigation is ongoing with the Cook County Sheriff’s Police and Robbin’s Police Department investigating the criminal aspect and the State Police Public Integrity Task Force investigating the Officer involved shooting aspect. The officer has been placed on paid administrative leave. v v

"Jemel has played for @PurposedChurch for the last several years and just played for my grandma’s funeral Friday and now he is gone. Rest In Peace #JemelRoberson #JusticeForJemel," Pastor LeAundre Hill said in a tweet.

Roberson's family filed a federal civil rights lawsuit Monday "for the wrongful death of Jemel," according to their attorneys.

I guess a good guy with a gun . . .only applies if you 'look the part' . .. aka not browner than a paper bag

And the one thing that the NRA jokers keep saying when things like this happens is "They should've had an armed guard".

Do police kill more people in the U.S. in ratio to the population? Also, do more police die per ratio?

Use a negative story to promote your opinion. Ignore when it is effective as a deterant...

This is also a reason why there should never be open carry, and why having an armed guard isn't always the best answer. It makes it much more difficult to be a cop looking for an armed shooter when multiple people at the location have weapons.

There’s not enough detail in that article to determine how things turned out the way they did.

The way police culture has evolved in the USA, it is pounded into them, if you aren't sure whether a situation is dangerous enough for you to draw your weapon, then it is dangerous, draw your weapon and shoot. Your #1 responsibility is to make sure you make it home at night.

I'm sure this originally comes from a good place of wanting to protect officers and have them act for their own saftey, but at this point the mindset had gotten out of control.

When a police officer tries to talk down a suicidal guy with a gun he can sees is unloaded, he is fired by the police department because he might be wrong about the gun being unloaded and he just risked the life of the other cops who might show up. He should have shot the second he saw s gun.

The deck is so heavily stacked to shoot at any danger, that innocent lives aren't even weighed at all. Everybody is either a cop or a bad guy until proven beyond all doubt otherwise.

Number 1 Priority is Cop lives because their lives are more important than other people's lives
Number 2 Priority is protecting Cop and Police Department because the reputation and freedom of cops is more important than other people's lives
Number 3 Priority is to make sure that the anything that will violate or harm Priority 1 or 2 is suppressed, disposed of and discredited
Number 4 Priority is arrest someone to make the police department look good and to make money through tickets and other fines
Number 5 Priority justice is you can get it quickly and easily . . . . .and it does not get in the way of the other priorities

The Policing System has become about protecting itself from the rifraf that is the rest of society

"Motivated" isn't the correct usage here.

More like "triggered". His subconscious bias left no benefit of the doubt for a armed black individual when he might have for a white individual.
