OKC is much worse. I can just see russell dribbling around taking contested jumpers right from the chart.

Exactly. When your first screen is lethal and your first pass is to the finisher, your passes-to-points ratio collapses. Second or third passes are no more desirable than second or third shots.

    Rox philosophy =

The first decent shot from good shooters in a system that empowers players' confidence >>>
trying to come up with the best shot and risk 1) a worse shot later
    2) increasing turnover risk
    3) asking players to make more complicated decisons rather than binary of "if you are open, shoot!"

I don't get this logic. The Rockets are the most efficient offense in history. Two of the reasons we are so efficient is because we take so few 2pt shots (which is clearly positively correlated with better overall records) and because we limit passes and take the first good shot (which this chart also clearly shows is correlated with better overall records) - BUT there are people who believe we need to pass more and take more mid-range jumpers to improve our offense!

Historically low pass rate + Historically high 3pt rate = Greatest offense of all time.

This is not up for debate, it's mathematically provable, and yet people want to take exactly what makes the Rockets so amazing and throw it out the window. Why??? I just don't get it.

It's pretty simple really. I know what we do = greatest offense of all time. I'm not sure the greatest offense of all time won't lose in the WCF to the Warriors. We have to be better and to be better you have to produce more efficient basketball.

Now, one example is saying we need to take midrange jumpers - which is idiotic. Midrange jumpers are less efficient than what we're doing.

Another way is to say Anderson, Gordon and Ariza should give a bit more consideration to whether their shot is good or who else has a better shot. That has the potential to improve upon the greatest offense in history. It's not about recording an assist. It's about the fact that when the time comes that defenses get tense and more effort is needed to beat them, it will be the unselfishness that gets us out of it, and not the mid range jumper or forcing more 3's (like last season) that will do it.

Mathematically, teams that assist on a higher percentage of their points win dramatically more.

    Im not sure you're right.
Just by looking at this graph shows you that 4 out of the 5 most efficient teams in the leauge are passing under the leauge average.
Its got to do with style of play, and more than anything- Talent and fit.
GS and the Spurs in the championship years play this type of basketball that fits their stars talent.
Miami didnt pass the ball as much so did the Lakers of the shaq/kobe era as they had different quality in their stars.
Houston puts more effort on purpuse passing and north\south movement.
GS plays a lot more East\west and moving the ball.
It works great for them with 3 of the best shooters to ever play the game and a unique center that can navigate the offense and defense and allows them to play that way.
Every team should play to its advantages, and we have the best one on one player in the leauge so its only smart to play him more often.
Now that we have another great player it just opens up more options but it doesnt mean that we should all play like GS or the 2014 spurs.

Another garbage thread started by some ignorant and discontent "fan" despite having the best record in the league.

We are 15 in the league is assist % so despite not having not passing much we still have in middle of the back in terms of assists. Harden leads the league in iso scoring so its not surprising.

Passing is for teams that don't know how to get an open look.

I'd love to see the stats on what % of a team's total passes are assists. I'm thinking we'd be near the top on that one.

I’m happy with it. Whenever im watching crappy teams I’m thinking:
„Dude u just passed up a open three because the shotclock is at 21?“
And this **** usually ends with a desperation heave
